Cylink Announces Availability of ISDN Encryptors in Japan and Europe

BRI and PRI Encryptors to Support Telecommunications Applications Including Remote Computing; U.S. Versions to be Released Later This Year

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – March 5, 2001 – Cylink Corporation (Nasdaq: CYLK), a leading provider of e-business security solutions, today announced the general availability in Japan and Europe of ISDN Basic Rate Interface (BRI) and Primary Rate Interface (PRI) encryptors for applications including remote computing, video-conferencing, and LAN-to-LAN communications.

“These solutions mark an important step as we expand our presence in Japan and begin to penetrate the enormous market for ISDN encryption products in Europe,” said William P. Crowell, President and CEO of Cylink. “These two cost-effective solutions are powerful additions to our WAN family of encryptors.”

Cylink’s single-line interface BRI ISDN solution, which can encrypt a telecommuter’s Remote Access Service (RAS) connections and other low-bandwidth telecommunications links, supports speeds of up to 128 Kbps. The PRI ISDN solution, designed for securing corporate PBX system communications and other large-scale, bandwidth-hungry applications, encrypts at rates of up to 2 Mbps (E1) and 1.5 Mbps (T1).

Later in 2001, Cylink will release U.S. versions of the two encryptors and a quad BRI encryptor capable of securing as many as four ISDN BRI lines for video-conferencing at speeds of up to 512 Kbps. All of the solutions will be managed in a later release of Cylink’s PrivaCy Manager, a Java-based security management platform that provides central control of all Cylink encryption appliances, including its NetHawk virtual private network (VPN) product, to enable remote diagnostics and prevent spoofing and eavesdropping.

Cylink is offering the encryptors under an original equipment manufacturer’s agreement with DICA Technologies, a Germany-based supplier of communication products. The OEM agreement, announced last October, expanded an existing partnership between the two companies. Cylink has provided DICA ISDN products equipped with its encryption technology to key financial institutions in Japan.

ISDN, a fully digital telephone service, operates at speeds up to 128 kilobits per second – up to 2 Â? times faster than today’s analog modems – to provide high-speed telephone connections. The service can dramatically speed up the transfer of information over the Internet or over a remote LAN connection, especially rich media like graphics, audio or video or applications that normally run at LAN speeds.
