Cylink Builds on Public Key Infrastructure Solution with Enhanced Performance, Ease of Use, Functionality

Growing Partner Program Drives Expansion of NetAuthority’s Interoperability

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – January 22, 2001 – E-business security provider Cylink Corporation (Nasdaq: CYLK) today announced the general availability of NetAuthority(tm) 3.1, a next-generation public key infrastructure solution that provides advanced performance, functionality and ease of use. The PKI also is interoperable with solutions from a growing list of Cylink partners to enable an expanded set of applications.

NetAuthority’s performance has been improved with the addition of support for the Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP), which reduces certificate-validation time to speed transaction processing and enhance security. The standards-compliant PKI’s registration authority also is easier to use; the graphical user interface (GUI) is now Wizard-based to enable the implementation of multiple policy options such as remote and pre-registration of end-users. This ability to easily support a wide variety of certificate usage policy options is critical since business units within an enterprise use digital identities for different purposes, and since no one approach to certificate use is common within or across enterprises. For ease of implementation, the PKI solution can be

deployed with off-the-shelf browser clients such as Microsoft Explorer and Netscape Navigator.

NetAuthority’s functionality and interoperability also have been expanded. The PKI features improved administrative controls over remote registration operations, Web-based certificate registration for scalability and modular components that allow it to be configured to better meet the needs of business. And it now interoperates with products from a number of companies, including ValiCert, Chrysalis-ITS and E-Lock Technologies, that are part of a growing Cylink partner program that enables Cylink to deliver a variety of advanced PKI solutions.

“NetAuthority 3.1 combines Cylink’s advances in PKI technology with best-of-breed solutions from a number of our industry partners,” said William P. Crowell, Cylink’s President and CEO. “We are excited to be working with such a distinguished group and share their vision for making the Internet a trusted global community for e-business. We look forward to building on these relationships and developing others as we continue to meet the market’s evolving needs for PKI technology.”

NetAuthority 3.1 builds on its forerunner’s reputation for delivering a scalable, reliable and secure PKI environment to the U.S. Postal Service. Since its August 1999 implementation, the Postal Service’s PC Postage application has issued nearly 800,000 digital certificates delivered by Cylink’s NetAuthority certification authority. Cylink’s relationship with the Postal Service was recently expanded with the deployment of NetAuthority as the certificate authority for NetPost.Certified, a service designed to secure electronic documents exchanged among federal agencies.

NetAuthority Offers Full Certificate Management Functionality NetAuthority includes a certification authority that provides full certificate life-cycle management; a registration server that incorporates a policy-based management scheme to receive, vet, and approve certificate requests from Web-based applicants; and a registration authority client used by administrators to manage policies, create certificate types, build certificate request forms, and manage applicant validation procedures. NetAuthority is interoperable with any X.500/LDAP directory.

NetAuthority 3.1 is now available and can be ordered through any Cylink sales representative.
