Norman Virus Control 5 Receives Twelfth Virus Bulletin 100% Award

FAIRFAX, Va., March 14 /PRNewswire/ — Norman Data Defense Systems, a leader in the field of data security, announced today that its most recent generation of virus control, Norman Virus Control 5 (NVC 5), has received a Virus Bulletin 100% Award for February 2001, its twelfth since 1998. The award is given to products that detect 100% of “in the wild” viruses in test samplings offered by Virus Bulletin, a leading independent testing facility based in the U.K.

“We’re extremely pleased that our newest version of Norman Virus Control earned a perfect score in detecting ‘in the wild’ viruses in its first major test by a leading testing facility since being released in December,” stated Hank Dugan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Norman Data Defense Systems, the North American subsidiary of Norman ASA. “The award demonstrates that once again Norman Virus Control is able to meet the industry’s most rigorous standards for virus detection, placing it among the top performing anti-virus products on the market.”

NVC 5 offers corporations state-of-the-art data security through its new proprietary heuristic and one of the fastest search engines available, which enables the product to identify new viruses accurately and quickly. An additional important feature of this new generation of software is its automatic update and network administration technology — called ZANDA — Zero Administration Network Distribution Agent. After the initial installation, each workstation’s ZANDA agent will automatically, on a scheduled basis, retrieve engine and definition file updates from the network administrator. ZANDA also automatically disseminates configuration changes made by the network administrator.

Norman Virus Control has a consistent record of rating highly in product tests on detecting and cleaning viruses and has won twelve 100% Virus Bulletin awards since 1998. Also, NVC 5 recently earned the Checkmark Certification for virus detection and reliability from West Coast Labs, a globally recognized, independent research and test center. Norman’s virus search engine has been licensed to a host of companies and institutions, including Sybari Software, and protects millions of workstations.

The Virus Bulletin 100% award is given to products that detect all “in the wild” viruses during both on-demand and on-access scanning in certain Virus Bulletin tests. Virus Bulletin has tested the world’s leading anti-virus products since 1998. Tests are carried out every second month and are widely recognized within the industry. The comparatives tend to focus on virus detection rates, scanning speed and, more recently, performance overhead of on-access or resident scanning components.
