Pointsec Mobile Technologies Selected by U.S. Navy For Computer Security

Pointsec Also Signs Agreement With the U.S. Army to Protect Desktop and Mobile Computers

STOCKHOLM, Sweden–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 15, 2001–Pointsec Mobile Technologies, Inc, a leading developer of security control software for PCs, mobile computers, and PDAs, announced today that a Naval Research program and divisions within the Army will secure their desktop and mobile computers using Pointsec 4.0, a full disk encryption product that provides device access control and user authentication.

The initial order value is of a smaller amount but the co-operation is regarded as a very important strategic step for Pointsec.

The Extending the Littoral Battlespace Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration (ELB ACTD) program, an effort hosted by the Office of Naval Research, selected Pointsec 4.0 to secure mission-critical data on mobile computers used by dispersed ground forces who connect wirelessly to joint forces ashore and at sea. Some of the key product features that led this Naval research program to chose Pointsec to safeguard it’s information systems include Pointsec’s identification and authorization features and on-the-fly, transparent hard disk encryption methods.

Pointsec also has entered into an agreement to protect a select number of distributed PC’s for the US Army.

“The need to protect sensitive data and access to networks continues to rise as governments seek new technologies to secure classified information residing on distributed devices,” said Kurt Lennartsson, co-founder and vice president of Pointsec Mobile Technologies, Inc. “Pointsec has been working with government agencies both here and in Europe for quite some time. The addition of the U.S. Navy and Army as customers demonstrates the increasing high level of trust the federal government has in Pointsec.”

Pointsec 4.0 provides complete device access control by encrypting the operating system, all drives and resident data, including deleted files and unused space on PCs and laptops, ensuring only authorized users can access the device, resident information and connections into Networks and Intranets. Unlike competing products, Pointsec simplifies security procedures for users by offering a single product that provides a one- step login onto multiple operating systems and multiple networks, as well as PKI software-secured applications. Pointsec is Novell certified, and can be deployed on both Microsoft and Novell networks.
