SurfControl Announces Grant of US Patent for Internet Filtering Technology
SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 10, 2001–SurfControl, the Internet Filtering Company(sm), (London:SRF, Nasdaq Europe:SRFC), is pleased to announce today that the US Patent Office has granted to SurfControl a patent on its core web filtering technology and processes.
The US Patent 6,219,786, granted to SurfControl, Inc., describes the unique system for managing access control to resources of a distributed network, and more particularly to monitoring computer users’ access to those resources from within and outside the network.
In particular, it covers the key elements necessary for the monitoring and controlling of network access including identifying the source and destination of data packets, generating access rules, and completing or denying access based upon those access rules.
The patent further highlights the benefit of monitoring traffic and managing access from a workstation other than the actual choke point of the network, this is SurfControl’s innovative “pass-by” technology.
