Trend Micro PC-cillin Detects 100% of ‘In the Wild’ Viruses in Latest Test by AV-Test.org

PC-cillin, the Trend Micro Home and Small Office Solution, Recognized As A Top Performer By Internationally Recognized Virus Testing Organization

Cupertino, CA, July 19, 2002. Trend Micro, Inc. (Nasdaq: TMIC; TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security solutions, is pleased to announce that its home and small office virus protection software, PC-cillin received top results in the latest test conducted by AV-Test.org. PC-cillin delivered the highest quality and was one of only two programs that offered 100% protection while background scanning. PC-cillin also achieved a 100% detection rate of viruses in in-circulation or ‘In the Wild’ viruses. It performed the fastest, and supported more archived and compressed files than other leading antivirus software products. The test was conducted by the internationally recognized independent virus testing organization on behalf of a leading German computer magazine, PC Welt.

PC-cillin’s results were particularly outstanding when tested with Microsoft( Windows( ME and Microsoft Windows XP. The product delivered the highest quality results of any vendor’s when tested with Windows ME. Programs were tested according to the following criteria:

– ITW virus detection
– ZOO virus detection (viruses never or uncommonly spread) On-Demand
– Performance/Scan time On-Demand and On-Access
– Archived and compressed files On-Demand

In previous AV.Test.org evaluations, Trend Micro ScanMail( for Notes 4.0 and 5.0, ScanMail for Exchange 5.5 and 2000, and ServerProtect( scored 100%, the highest score possible, when evaluated on detection of disk operating system (DOS) file viruses, Microsoft(r) Windows(r) 32-bit file viruses, macro viruses, and script viruses.

AV-Test.org is a project of the Business Information Workgroup at the Institute of Technical and Business Information Systems at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg (Germany). The organization regularly tests antivirus software on behalf of companies and leading IT publications.
