Worldwide First Microsoft Certification for Utimaco Safeware´s Pocket PC Security Solution
Utimaco Safeware´s SafeGuard PDA for secure authentication and protection of data by encryption on PDA is the first security solution to be certified by Microsoft’s “Designed for Windows for Pocket PC Logo” worldwide.
Oberursel, July 19, 2002. Utimaco Safeware AG expands its professional product portfolio for securing PCs and notebooks by SafeGuard PDA to the latest generation of mobile end devices. This software prevents the unauthorized use of Pocket PCs by strong authentication. By encryption, SafeGuard PDA additionally allows the secured filing of data on the mobile end device as well as the protected exchange of information via e-mail or Internet.

For the authentication of the user, SafeGuard PDA offers procedures that are innovative and specially tailored to PDA´s. Besides a traditional password procedure, symbol logon or the biometric identification of a handwritten password are available as well.
The certification of this solution by the Microsoft logo guarantees the customer the compatibility with a broad range of hard- and software for Pocket PCs.
Market analysts like Datamonitor are forecasting a strong increase in the worldwide PDA market with average annual growth rates of 16% and more than 800 millions PDA’s sold until the year 2003. At the same time, the Datamonitor analysts point out a “close connection between the increasing demand for PDA’s and the turnover growth for mobile authentication solutions” as well as a strongly increasing demand “for protection of valuable company information by encryption software”.
