US. Government Customer Expands Deployment Of Datakey Smart Card Technology

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 11, 2002 – Datakey Inc. (Nasdaq: DKEY; www.datakey.com), a trusted developer of smart card solutions for securing enterprise-wide personal identification, today announced that a U.S. government customer has placed an order for Datakey smart card technology to support internal employees. The order is valued at approximately $443,000.

The order represents an expansion of a previous deployment of Datakey technology to this government customer. Datakey smart cards will be used as a smart ID badge that secures physical access to buildings and also protects access to corporate networks. To enter the organization’s facilities, employees will use their smart card, which contains RF proximity technology, for door access. Once inside the building, employees will also use their digital credentials and smart cards for a range of information security functions, including secure network logon and secure desktop functions like sending encrypted/digitally signed e-mail messages.

“Many customers – both in the public and private sectors – are realizing the return-on-investment and cost savings that can be achieved by integrating physical and data security in one smart ID badge,” said Carl Boecher, president and CEO, Datakey. “Datakey is pleased to continue its support of the U.S. government’s smart ID badge initiatives, as we believe strongly in the value of integrating security and access control in a single, combined solution based on smart card technology.”
