Entercept Security Technologies Announces Integration Plans with the Symantec Security Management System

Leader in Intrusion Prevention Among The First To Develop Security Software Interoperable with the Symantec Security Management System

NEW YORK, New York, October 1, 2002—Enterceptâ„? Security Technologies, the proven leader in intrusion prevention software, today announced plans to integrate Entercept, its award-winning, multi-layered server security solutions, with Symantec Corporation’s (Nasdaq: SYMC) Security Management System. The Symantec Security Management System is a customizable set of interoperable solutions that can aggregate and analyze data across an entire multi-vendor security system. Unveiled today at Symantec’s Vision360 event in New York, a version of the new Entercept integrated solution was demonstrated to show how customers using the Entercept product line could gain greater control over and manage the security of their system by getting an aggregated view of information security and intrusion prevention data across all products and tiers. Entercept is among the first third-party solutions to develop security software interoperable with the Symantec Security Management System.

“Entercept’s integration with the Symantec Security Management System will deliver improved levels of protection and control for our mutual customers’ overall enterprise security,” said Gail Hamilton, vice president of product delivery at Symantec. “We are so pleased to work with Entercept in these early stages of Symantec’s integration program.”

The Symantec Security Management System and its components are built on Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture, which provides a standards-based interoperability framework for Symantec and third-party solutions to work together to provide secure, manageable, and scalable enterprise security. Customer environments are heterogeneous and often composed of several security products from many vendors. Therefore, an interoperable architecture is a critical enabler to enterprises that need strong security and centralized management. Entercept alerts are sent to the Symantec Security Management System for data collection and analysis, providing a wealth of real-time security data regarding known and unknown attacks. In addition, Entercept’s proven expertise in integrating with third-party solutions will provide the secure, manageable solutions required by today’s enterprise customers. The centralized management of security activity, including Entercept events and reports, will give joint enterprise customers increased efficiency, uptime and cost savings.

“Integration and partnerships with leading technology vendors like Symantec are a natural extension of our advancing role in the security market. Symantec enables strong and effective security by delivering a standards-based architecture to support enterprise class proactive protection, centralized and comprehensive management, and consistent security policy enforcement,” said Lou Ryan, president and CEO of Entercept Security Technologies. “We support Symantec in establishing a comprehensive option for the management of critical security resources.”
