RSA Security and iRevolution Join Forces to Offer Two-Factor Authentication for Companies Using Microsoft Passport

Bedford, MA, Tuesday, October 08, 2002 — RSA Security Inc. (NASDAQ: RSAS), the most trusted name in e-security®, today announced a strategic relationship with iRevolution to provide two-factor authentication to Microsoft® Passport. RSA Security and iRevolution are creating a solution that is designed to enable Passport users to sign-on using RSA® Mobile software to provide stronger and more secure authentication. RSA Mobile software utilizes mobile phones and the SMS (short messaging service) infrastructure to quickly deliver one-time access codes to end users for secure entry into Passport enabled sites.

With this new solution, customers now have the ability to have additional layers of authentication using RSA Mobile authentication software, which delivers one-time access codes that are generated at the time of log-in and delivered immediately to the end-user’s mobile phone, pager, PDA or email account. The user simply enters their Passport sign in name and password followed by the one-time access code to be positively authenticated. This innovative, two-factor authentication solution is designed to enhance the user experience by giving them a portable, intuitive and easy to use method for securely accessing their valuable data assets. Under the terms of the agreement, iRevolution, an integrated software solutions provider will serve as the third-party host of the combined solution and manage additional credentials.

RSA Mobile software is designed to be a “zero-deployment” two-factor authentication solution, leveraging users’ existing mobile phones, pagers or PDAs – devices that are already an integral part of any users’ arsenal of business and personal tools. For enterprises, this significantly helps simplify deployment, reduce costs and protect sensitive and valuable company information with a proven two-factor authentication model.

“Microsoft understands the importance of security to our customers and is committed to working with industry leaders like RSA Security to provide Passport-enabled sites with the flexibility of having additional levels of authentication to enhance the user experience,” said Brian Arbogast, vice president, .NET Core Services Platform at Microsoft Corp. “Our combined effort with RSA Security and iRevolution is one of the steps we are taking to develop an industry ecosystem around Passport and other Microsoft .NET services.”

“iRevolution’s collaboration with these two industry leaders will enable organizations to easily integrate enhanced systems for digital identity management, increasing consumer confidence and improving convenience for the end user,” said Eamus Halpin, Chief Executive Officer at iRevolution.

“RSA Security is pleased to collaborate with Microsoft and iRevolution to offer consumers and enterprises an additional level of confidence when transacting on-line with Microsoft Passport,” said Bill McQuaide, senior vice president, Authentication division at RSA Security. “We believe this relationship allows companies to increase the strength of the digital identity which is a fundamental first step in creating on-line trust.”
