Cyberguard Firewall Technology Passes Test To Provide Global Financial Security Solutions

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and London, UK (January 6, 2003) – CyberGuard Corporation (AMEX: CFW), the technology leader in network security, today announced that Baltimore Technologies (London: BLM) has completed interoperability testing with CyberGuard’s range of firewall/virtual private network (VPN) products within Baltimore’s Identrus Express(tm) and Identrus StarterPak Pro(tm) laboratory environment. Baltimore’s UniCERT(tm) Certificate Authority System and CyberGuard’s security appliances can combine to provide a complete public key infrastructure (PKI) and firewall/VPN solution within an Identrus environment.

Identrus is a global framework that enables businesses to actively manage their e-commerce risks through trustworthy relationships with their financial institutions. Identrus supplies the legal means and technology to let Internet trading partners trust in one another’s identities. Through a relationship with participating financial institutions, companies are able to use the Internet to conclusively identify trading partners and conduct trusted business-to-business e-commerce with any other participant in the Identrus system.

The Identrus solution is built on accepted, standards-based PKI technologies that create, manage and enforce digital identities for use in B2B e-commerce. The combination of CyberGuard’s firewall/VPN solutions and Baltimore’s Financial Trust Solution for Identrus will provide Identrus organizations with a trust infrastructure guaranteeing privacy and integrity of information, strong authentication of the user and irrefutable transactions.

“In looking for an Identrus solution partner we chose Baltimore as they are not only a proven ‘best-of-breed’ security platform provider but also a partner with a reputation for innovative and market leading solutions,” said Andrew Clarke, vice president and managing director for Europe, Middle East and Africa at CyberGuard. “This is an important step that allows CyberGuard to extend our growth in the global financial services market.”

“We look forward to working with CyberGuard as a leading company in network security to enhance our Identrus compliant solution. CyberGuard Corporation’s firewall and VPN technologies offer organizations cost-effective solutions that integrate all aspects of network security,” commented Elaine Treacy, senior vice president of marketing at Baltimore Technologies. “Baltimore is the leading e-security vendor to the financial services sector and this solution further underpins our commitment to that market.”

Launched in April 1999 by ABN AMRO, Bank of America, Barclays, Chase Manhattan, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank and Hypo Vereinsbank, the Identrus system now has more than 60 financial institutions identified as Identrus Certificate Authorities. They represent more than 133 countries and millions of business relationships.
