Sophos Partners With Barbedwire Technologies To Provide Enterprise Security Appliance

Sophos Anti-Virus is now an integral component of Barbedwire’s content filtering console

Sophos, a world leader in anti-virus protection for businesses, has signed a worldwide licensing agreement with Barbedwire Technologies, a leading provider of enterprise security appliance solutions. Under this agreement, businesses using Barbedwire’s Minesweeper CF – an enterprise security appliance which was released today – will be protected against the virus threat through the use of Sophos Anti-Virus.

In addition to Sophos’s powerful virus detection engine, Minesweeper CF also provides content filtering and anti-spam. This not only offers clients a single appliance which is easy to deploy, manage and maintain, it also represents a cost-effective and comprehensive security appliance solution for mid-size and large organisations.

Barbedwire and Sophos have also agreed to work together to introduce Minesweeper CF to their reseller partners who are looking to strengthen their corporate security offerings with products that simplify security management.

“The biggest roadblock that organisations continue to face when deploying security solutions is managing all of these products in a cohesive, intelligent, and efficient manner,” said Zia Iqbal, CEO of Barbedwire Technologies. “By integrating Sophos Anti-Virus into the new Minesweeper CF, along with content filtering and anti-spam, our customers will be able to deploy and manage three security products from a single console.”

“In January alone, Sophos detected 521 new viruses, worms and Trojan horses – the total number of viruses that Sophos protects against is now approaching 80,000,” said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos Anti-Virus. “Sophos is dedicated to providing our customers dependable anti-virus solutions and we’re confident that Barbedwire is equally committed to providing the same level of service to their customers as well.”

A report published by Bear Stearns at their 13th Annual Technology Conference in June 2002 stated, “We think the industry must strive for greater interoperability, integration, and manageability the vendors that successfully achieve such integration would revolutionise the internet security market.”

VP Sales of Barbedwire Steve Behrens, agrees, “During my recent visits with channel partners and enterprise customers this was the very same theme that resonated with each conversation. The addition of the Minesweeper CF to our other security appliances, consolidates, under one management console, the ability to detect, manage, and respond to security threats for many best-of-breed products including Cisco, Check Point, Netscreen, and now Sophos.”
