SafeNet Teams with AMDwith AMD to offer SafeXcel-1741 Reference Design Kit

BALTIMORE, MD – April 15, 2003 – SafeNet (Nasdaq: SFNT), a leading provider of private and public network security solutions who has set the industry standard for VPN technology and secure business communications, today announced that it has been designed onto the Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Access Equipment Reference Design Kit (RDK). AMD will offer SafeNet’s SafeXcelâ„?-1741 security processor to its partners and customers, as part of a RDK, for VPN functionality and acceleration.

“As one of the leading suppliers of integrated circuits for personal and networked computers and communications, and connected with leading semiconductors and manufacturers, AMD is a well-suited partner to further deploy our security technology. Making our SafeXcel silicon technology available to those leading companies is another step for SafeNet to be the clear leader for all VPN technology,” said Anthony Caputo, Chairman, and CEO of SafeNet. “More and more, companies are turning to OEM manufacturers to supply solid security technology from the ground floor-SafeNet is supplying that security foundation and ultimately securing the foundation of all networks.”
AMD will have the SafeXcel-1741 chip as part of their Access Equipment RDK, which will be offered to its partners and customers for VPN functionality and acceleration. With the SafeXcel-1741 chip, AMD can offer its customers and partners this functionality in hardware, offloading the burden on the host processor, creating a higher-perforating and more cost-effective product. Targeted at high-end consumers, SOHO, and enterprise markets, the SafeXcel-1741 reference design allows end users a complete and secure platform for a variety of products including wireless access points, gateways, routers, firewalls, and cable modems.
AMD chose SafeNet’s technology because it was the most complete and flexible solution in the industry-AMD wanted implementation flexibility, a proven solution and an easy-to-use interface, and SafeNet met all these requirements.

“Our customers have been asking us for increased security and encryption technologies on the network,” said Phil Pompa, Vice President of Marketing for Personal Connectivity Solutions group. “SafeNet was a great choice for us as they have a broad market acceptance and made their security acceleration processors easy to integrate onto our reference design kits.”

Part of the Momentum Series in SafeXcel silicon chips, the SafeXcel-1741 is a highly sophisticated security co-processor optimized for very cost-sensitive designs such as routers, firewalls, wireless access points, DSL/cable modems, and residential gateways. The SafeXcel-1741 offers high performance Triple DES and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithms in a highly integrated VPN security co-processor at breakthrough prices. Ideal for broadband applications including routers, gateways, DSL/cable modems, wireless access points, and firewalls for remote or branch offices, the SafeXcel-1741 improves performance up to 260 Mbps IPSec packet throughput for ESP packets (AES and SHA-1).
