Meetinghouse and Intersil Enter into Licensing Agreement for AEGIS Authentication API Supporting WPA and Cisco CCX Wireless LAN Security
Agreement for Embedded Security Technology Exclusive to Meetinghouse
PORTSMOUTH, NH, May 14, 2003 – Meetinghouse, a leading developer of standards-based network authentication software for wired and wireless local-area networks, announces an agreement with Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, for the licensing of Meetinghouse’s AEGIS Authentication API. Under the terms of the agreement, Intersil will integrate the AEGIS Authentication API into a new generation of PRISM® chipsets for the Wireless LAN (WLAN) OEM market. The AEGIS API enables Intersil to gain fast, easy-to-implement compliance with 802.11X, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), and Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX). The technology will be integrated within the drivers and reference design solutions of Intersil’s new WLAN chipsets.
“The emerging enterprise networking market requires high-performance, standard-based solutions that are both resource-friendly and highly secure,” said Larry Ciaccia, vice president and general manager of Intersil’s Wireless Networking Product Group. “Our new designs provide embedded WLAN solutions with unsurpassed performance and fully-integrated AEGIS authentication security.”
“The integration of the AEGIS Authentication API into the new Intersil chipsets is an exciting development for Meetinghouse,” said Dr. Paul Goransson, President of Meetinghouse. “We believe this development will help accelerate the adoption of wireless LAN networking in the enterprise market.”
About the Meetinghouse AEGIS API Suite
Meetinghouse’s AEGIS API Suite is a quick-to-integrate solution enabling 802.1X-based authentication for software products. The suite consists of three separate APIs: Authentication, Wireless Configuration, and Network Configuration. The Authentication API accepts credentials from an application and handles all required interaction to carry out 802.1X authentication. The Wireless Configuration API enables the determination of a user’s wireless network card configuration; detects wireless networks within range; gathers statistics on those networks; and controls which wireless network the card connects to. Finally, the Network Configuration API enables the configuration of the IP network and Internet proxies. With these tools, a developer can quickly create an application that provides comprehensive 802.1X support.
The AEGIS API Suite was developed with ease of integration in mind. A comprehensive set of examples enables quick product integration. Support for a broad range EAP types and operating systems is featured. Microsoft Windows 98, 2000, XP, and ME are supported with plans for additional operating systems in the future. A full range of authentication methods are supported, including: EAP-PEAP, EAP-TTLS, EAP-MD5, EAP-TLS and Cisco LEAP. Broad support for wireless Network Interface Cards (NIC) is featured. In addition, interoperability with 802.11 RADIUS Servers includes: Meetinghouse AEGIS, Funk Steel-Belted Radius, Microsoft IAS, Cisco ACS, Interlink and FreeRadius
