NetScreen Announces New Appliance for Enterprise Remote Sites and Telecommuters

GUILDFORD, U.K., May 23, 2003 — NetScreen Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: NSCN), has announced the addition of a new low-end appliance, the NetScreen-5GT, to its line of purpose-built integrated firewall and virtual private network (VPN) security solutions.

The NetScreen-5GT provides the firewall, VPN, denial of service protection, performance and resiliency enterprises need to effectively secure remote sites and telecommuters. The new platform has added memory and CPU power to accommodate future security capabilities, including intrusion detection and prevention (IDP) as well as Trend Micro’s award-winning network antivirus functionality. Antivirus integration is planned for the NetScreen-5GT as the product of a definitive agreement signed by NetScreen and Trend Micro (see related announcement dated May 23: “NetScreen and Trend Micro To Deliver Tighter Integration of Network Security Solutions”).

“With its available resiliency features, integrated firewall and VPN capabilities, and added memory and CPU power, the NetScreen-5GT serves as the ideal platform to accommodate complementary best-of-breed functionality like AV from Trend Micro, which can dramatically increase security through a simple software upgrade,” said David Flynn, vice president of marketing for NetScreen. “This will be especially valuable in remote sites where IT resources are limited and attacks are difficult to contain.”

The NetScreen-5GT appliance offers 75 Mbps firewall throughput and 20 Mbps 3DES VPN performance. It supports up to 10 IPSec VPN tunnels and up to 2,000 sessions. The NetScreen-5GT platform also includes five 10/100 auto-sensing, auto-correcting ports, a management console and modem port.

A version of the NetScreen-5GT, like other NetScreen appliances, supports dynamic routing protocols, such as RIP 2, BGP and OSPF, as well as resiliency and fail-over features often required in large distributed enterprise environments, like dial backup and intelligent fail-over capabilities for connection redundancy.

The NetScreen-5GT is now available. The antivirus upgrade for the NetScreen-5GT is expected to be available in the second half of 2003 for an additional fee. For more information about NetScreen products, visit: www.netscreen.com.
