Trend Micro Only Vendor To Earn Certification For Antivirus Products From National Information Assurance Partnership

Gateway Solution Meets Rigorous Global Standards For Security Products; New Government Guidelines Specify NIAP-Certified IT Products For High Security Installations

Cupertino, Calif. – June 11, 2003 — Trend Micro Inc. (TSE: 4704, NASDAQ: TMIC), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security, today announced that it is the only vendor to have successfully attained certification from the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) for an antivirus product. After undergoing rigorous testing, Trend Micro’s internet gateway solutions, InterScan VirusWall 3.5 for NT and InterScan VirusWall 3.6 for Solaris, HP-UX and Linux received certification and listing on NIAP’s Validated Products List (VPL). Federal policy specifies that any new purchases of IT products by government agencies be limited to those that have met or are in the process of meeting the internationally accepted, standards-based security criteria, known as “Common Criteria,” for IT products critical to the overall economic and national security interests of the United States.

Other Trend Micro products, Trend Micro?¤ Control Manager, ScanMail?¤ for Microsoft?¤ Exchange and PC-cillin Wireless are currently being considered by NIAP for submission to the certification process. ServerProtect, Office Scan Corporate Edition, and InterScan Messaging Security Suite will be going through the NIAP certification process later this year.

The testing program, the NIAP Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme for IT Security, is a partnership of the National Security Agency and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The NIAP initiative is designed to meet the security, testing, evaluation and assessment needs of IT producers and consumers.

“We’re honored to be the only vendor with an antivirus product selected for the Validated Products List,” said Mike Lisi, vice president of government sales for Trend Micro. “We understand the needs and requirements of our government customers to meet the rigorous Common Criteria standards for IT products, and have spent the better part of two years working closely with NIAP to ensure that InterScan VirusWall does.”

InterScan VirusWall and the other products on the Validated Product List were evaluated and accredited by a NIAP-approved facility in the United States or in one of the other countries participating in the CCRA for conformance of the Common Criteria for IT Security Evaluation. The VPL contains numerous IT categories including routers, virtual private networks, remote access, mobile code, multiple domain solutions and biometrics and can be viewed at http://www.niap.nist.gov/cc-scheme/ValidatedProducts.html.
