NetScreen Extends Certifications To Include Important Worldwide Government Evaluation Standard

GUILDFORD, U.K., June 17, 2003—NetScreen Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: NSCN) has announced that its purpose-built, integrated firewall and virtual private network (VPN) security appliances and systems have achieved Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4 (EAL4) certification. Common Criteria is an important worldwide evaluation standard for security products, recognised in 16 countries and mandated by many government agencies for their critical systems and network purchases.

The Common Criteria EAL4 certification – backed by extensive analysis, verification and testing – is designed to assist prospective customers in judging the suitability of a security product measured against a set of security requirements and gives assurance that NetScreen’s certified firewall and VPN appliances have been rigorously tested and validated to meet these requirements.

“NetScreen prides itself on building high-performance appliances and systems that meet rigorous security requirements while providing low cost of ownership,” said David Flynn, vice president of marketing for NetScreen. “EAL4 extends NetScreen’s Common Criteria certifications and, in conjunction with other certifications such as FIPS, ICSA labs and OSEC, demonstrates our commitment to deliver full-featured and highly effective solutions for government organizations, enterprises and carriers.”

NetScreen’s integrated appliances and systems that achieved Common Criteria EAL4 certification include the NetScreen-5XT, -25, -50, -204, -208, -500, and -5200 running ScreenOS version 4.0.2. NetScreen’s EAL4 certification was completed using the U.S. Government Traffic-Filter Firewall Protection Profile for Low Risk Environments, which specifies an independent set of security requirements for firewall products.

NetScreen products that previously received Evaluation Assurance Level 2 (EAL2) certification using the associated firewall protection profile include the NetScreen-5XT, -50, -208, -500 and -5200 running ScreenOS version 4.0. In addition, selected NetScreen products have been submitted for Common Criteria EAL4+ certification using the Traffic-Filter Firewall Protection Profile for Medium Robustness Environments.
