Websense Inc. Wins Frost & Sullivan Global Leadership Award

Frost & Sullivan Names Websense The Worldwide Market Leader In Web Filtering Websense Holds Largest Share of Web Filtering Market and Largest Customer Base of Nearly 20,000 Organisations

CHERTSEY 26 August 2003 – Websense Inc. (NASDAQ: WBSN), the world’s leading provider of employee Internet management (EIM) software, today announced that Frost & Sullivan, a global leader in growth consulting, named Websense the winner of Frost & Sullivan’s Global Market Leadership Award in the Web filtering market.

“Websense won Frost & Sullivan’s Global Market Leadership Award as a result of excellence in all areas of the Web filtering market, including the identification of future market challenges, the development of solid strategy and the execution of product to successfully meet market challenges,” said Jose Lopez, industry analyst at Frost & Sullivan. According to the Frost & Sullivan research report, Global Web Filtering Markets, the award is given to the company that has exhibited market share leadership globally. In fact, Websense increased its market share to 24.5 percent, notably exceeding its closest competitor, by six percentage points. In addition, Websense nearly doubled its revenues in 2002 to $61 million, as compared to $35.6 million in 2001. Overall, Frost & Sullivan expects that Websense will maintain its leadership position throughout the foreseeable future.

The worldwide Web filtering market reached $247.2 million in 2002, an increase of 38.8 percent from $178.1 million in 2001, according to Frost & Sullivan. The market is expected to reach $331 million by the end of 2003, and grow at a 21 percent combined annual growth rate from 2002 to 2007, reaching $776.9 million by 2007.

“Websense is honored to receive such a prestigious global award from the well-respected analyst firm of Frost & Sullivan,” said Curt Staker, president of Websense Inc. “Its independent third-party assessment of Websense as the leading Web filtering company further validates our focus to provide superior, best of breed solutions to our customers and our commitment to continue to distance ourselves from the competitive field.”

With the launch of Websense Enterprise v5, the company’s software has evolved to address new computing risks, such as instant messaging, peer-to-peer file sharing, internal hacking and spyware, that extend beyond Web filtering at the Internet gateway-level. Websense software also provides desktop application and network protocol management from a single console.

Frost & Sullivan is the second analyst firm to announce Websense as the leading Web filtering provider worldwide. Last month, IDC, the leader provider of technology analysis, reported Websense as the Web filtering market share leader in the Secure Content Management market.
