Kaspersky Labs Takes Advantage Of The Recent Microsoft Acquisition

Kaspersky Labs, a leading information security expert, is pleased to announce the expansion of the technical department due to the acquisition of an additional Unix/Linux software development team, which used to work for RAV (Reliable AntiVirus).

Microsoft purchased RAV anti-virus technology on June 10, 2003 (http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2003/jun03/06-10GeCadPR.asp) for integration as an additional service into Windows. However, the RAV solutions portfolio included products that supported a wide range of other platforms, including comprehensive solutions for Unix/Linux.

“We see this as a very important step to strengthen our leading positions on the Unix/Linux anti-virus market. These talented developers will add value to our expertise, by contributing to the continual improvement of our Unix/Linux solutions,” commented Natalya Kaspersky, Kaspersky Labs CEO.

Kaspersky Labs has always paid due attention to the development of security solutions supporting Unix/Linux platforms, as it is one of the fastest-growing segments of the software market. The company is famous for its pioneering approach and breakthrough technologies. In 1999, Kaspersky Labs became the first technology vendor to offer a complete anti-virus solution for Linux, following up with a range of innovative technologies and comprehensive integrated projects. Kaspersky Labs currently offers cutting-edge solutions for Unix/Linux, which are in high demand in the market. Many major Internet service providers, as well as both commercial and government establishments use Kaspersky Labs solutions worldwide.

“We are pleased to have joined the Kaspersky Labs team, a team of world class experts and professionals”, commented Teodor Cimpoesu, a leading developer of Unix/Linux products at Kaspersky Labs, “We are sure that our skills will add value to the company and enhance Kaspersky Labs expertise on Unix/Linux security solution development. We are looking forward to providing users with new products and technologies for successful protection against IT threats.”

With the integration of the former RAV Unix/Linux development team members and a number of key RAV managing staff Kaspersky Labs gathers an extra knowledge and experience. This will enable Kaspersky Labs to proffer a special migration programme for existing RAV customers, who could experience difficulties with updating the product and receiving qualified technical support. Soon Kaspersky Labs will announce the details of the programme, which will allow RAV customers a free and smooth transition to Kaspersky(r) Anti-Virus substantiated with top-notch technical support.
