Meru Networks and iPolicy Networks to Provide Unified Security for WLANs

SUNNYVALE, Calif. March 22, 2004 Meru Networks, a leading provider of large scale wireless LAN (WLAN) infrastructure, and iPolicy Networks, the provider of unified network security systems, today announced a technology and reseller agreement to address the growing intrusion, virus and content security threats posed by wireless networks in the enterprise and to deliver a platform to provide rapid and adaptive response to threats originating from the wireless LAN (WLAN). iPolicy’s technology will be integrated into the Meru Controller architecture starting in the second half of 2004.

Under the agreement, iPolicy’s unified security technology will be integrated into the Meru Controller, a centralized WLAN management platform. The Meru Controller will use iPolicy’s breakthrough Single Pass Inspection(TM) technology and central management platform to provide adaptive WLAN network security protection that will successfully block today’s increasingly complex threats and attacks. By combining a unique understanding of large scale WLAN security with inspection and instantaneous response to all WLAN traffic, the Meru and iPolicy partnership will create the most comprehensive WLAN security solution in the industry. By providing security at every level of the enterprise WLAN, Meru’s Wireless LAN System is able to completely secure all corporate assets that may be accessible from the wireless LAN. iPolicy Networks completes the picture by including deep inspection (up to layer 7) firewall, intrusion detection, intrusion prevention, virus prevention, content filtering and surveillance at full wire speed.

“Securing enterprise networks requires multi-layer security, at network gateway/interfaces, at the servers as well as Wireless LANs. iPolicy Networks’ vision is to provide Unified Security at all the enterprise layers through our Single Pass Inspection(TM) (SPI) engine that enables real time threat prevention,” said Prabhu Goel, Chairman and CEO of iPolicy Networks. “Our technology partnership with Meru Networks provides a scalable WLAN security solution for enterprises. This joint solution proactively mitigates threats before they can propagate to the wired LAN.”

“Building a secure wireless LAN does not end at encryption and authentication,” said Ujjal Kohli, Chairman, Founder and CEO of Meru Networks, “Each year, security breaches cause billions of dollars in lost business productivity. iPolicy Networks has developed a unified and adaptive security system that not only addresses this problem but does so in a scalable fashion. Integrating the iPolicy ipEnforcer® patented Unified Security Traffic Inspection Engine(TM) into the Meru Wireless LAN System creates the industry’s first truly secure, enterprise scale, converged WLAN.”

Meru’s Wireless LAN System includes the Meru Access Point, a standards-compliant 802.11 access point that simultaneously acts as an access point and RF monitor; the Meru Controller, a centralized gateway by which all security, QoS and management policies can be configured and enforced across the entire wireless LAN, and the Meru System Director, an extensible, embedded software suite. The Meru Wireless LAN System provides enterprises with Meru’s unique 5-5-0 Benefits that combine to provide the industry’s first truly scalable wireless VoIP solution: Five times the number of users per access point, Five times the number of voice calls per access point and Zero loss handoffs between access points.

Unified security for WLANs is detailed in Meru’s recently published whitepaper “How to Provide Secure Wireless LANs in the Enterprise” available on the Internet at www.MeruNetworks.com.
