London, 4th October 2004. MessageLabs Group, one of the leading privately held managed technology services companies in the UK, has listed 88th in The Sunday Times Microsoft Tech Track 100. MessageLabs Group is the new name for Star Technology Group: it is the only business to have been listed consecutively for the last four years.

The Sunday Times Microsoft Tech Track 100 annual league table is compiled by Oxford based research company Fast Track and was published as a colour supplement in the Sunday Times on 3rd October 2004.

Brothers Ben and Jos White started the business in a converted barn in Gloucester in 1995. Formerly known as Star Technology Group, it was re-named as MessageLabs Group in September this year. The company has enjoyed a highly successful year, as a result of the achievements of both operating companies, MessageLabs and Star.

MessageLabs is recognised as the leading provider of managed email security services to business worldwide*, scanning 70 million emails a day for over 9,000 customers for viruses, spam, unwanted images and other harmful or undesirable content. It employs more than 300 people in eight countries and customers include the UK Government, the Bank of New York, Coca Cola, Diageo, CSC and Orange.

Star is a leading provider of technology services to mid-sized businesses and public sector organisations in the UK. Employing 300 people in Gloucester, London and Manchester, Star’s 3,800 business customers include Group Four, Umbro, GWR, Mysis and Virgin Energy.

Ben White, MessageLabs Group CEO, says:

“It is a fantastic achievement to list in the Tech Track four years in a row and, in particular, to be the only business listed to have done so. This is testament to the excellence of the people we employ and the energy that they bring to the company.’

“We are passionate about innovation and about ensuring that technology helps to develop and enrich businesses. Our customers look to us to provide them with market leading solutions – whether it be the proactive email scanning services pioneered by MessageLabs, or the best-of-breed range of hosting, connectivity and application services offered by Star.

“As we maintain that reputation for technical excellence and our commitment to serving our customers, I am confident that we will continue to enjoy the growth that we have seen over the past four years and that has been recognised by the Tech Track today.”
