SteelEye Technology releases LifeKeeper for Linux v4.6
Mountain View, CA – 16th November 2004 – SteelEye Technology Inc., the leading provider of data and application availability management solutions for Linux and Windows, today announced the release of LifeKeeperâ„? for Linux version 4.6. LifeKeeper provides data replication and high availability for enterprise applications in Linux and Windows environments. This new version supports an increased number of Linux distributions and kernels in the widest range of configuration options available in the Linux market today – protecting open source adopters’ freedom of choice.
“Protecting critical applications on Linux is vitally important to us following our decision to migrate our entire IT infrastructure to Linux” said Ole Bjorn Tuftedal, Chief Technology Officer for City of Bergen, Norway. “We already rely on SteelEye LifeKeeper to protect critical applications for our Education Department and welcome this new release as further evidence that SteelEye is determined to provide the widest range of application protection solutions for us.”
LifeKeeper for Linux v4.6 offers added Linux distribution support including SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9, application specific support for IBM DB2 UBD v8.2 as well as wider data storage support including Emulex Fibre Channel HBAs, IBM RDAC multi-pathing on ia64 and Opteron-based servers and HP StorageWorks MSA 1000 Small Business SAN Kit.
“The combination of Novell’s SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9, with its focus on scalability, performance, and security management, and SteelEye LifeKeeper for Linux, with its focus on availability management, is a compelling option for enterprise customers seeking to run mission critical applications on Linux,” said Mark Longwell, Director of Business Development for Novell. “Novell is pleased that SteelEye, a YES CERTIFIED Partner, has delivered LifeKeeper for Linux 4.6 with support for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9. We believe the combination of these products provides a solid foundation for customers looking to deploy Linux in the enterprise.”
“Emulex is committed to delivering highly robust Linux storage networking connectivity solutions to the enterprise data center,” said Mike Smith, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for Emulex. “SteelEye’s certification of the Emulex LightPulse Fibre Channel host bus adapters and Open Source Linux driver for operation with LifeKeeper for Linux addresses an important customer need, and we will continue working closely with SteelEye to deliver robust solutions for Linux environments.”
“Over the last four years, HP and SteelEye have established a solid record of delivering quality Linux solutions that have the highest degree of availability possible,” said Carl DCosta, Director of Infrastructure Solution Alliances at HP. “The combination of LifeKeeper for Linux v4.6 and HP Integrity and ProLiant servers running Linux gives customers the high availability and 24×7 access they need for mission-critical applications, while providing them with the price/performance they demand for their IT environments”
