Sourcefire and Crossbeam Systems partner to deliver real-time network defence solution on unified threat management platform

Sourcefire, Inc., the leader in real-time network defence, and Crossbeam Systems, Inc., the leader in protecting the world’s largest networks, today announced that the Sourcefire 3D System will be available as part of Crossbream’s Unified Threat Management Platform. The Crossbeam X-Series and C-Series platforms provide customers with a multi-layer security system that includes firewall and AV and now, Sourcefire’s IPS and RNA, the award winning real time network awareness solution. As perimeters grow ever-more porous, this comprehensive offering provides customers with the flexibility to stay ahead of emerging threats and address all of their security concerns from a single platform.

Sourcefire’s 3D System leverages Snort, the de facto standard for intrusion detection and prevention with over 100,000 active users and more than 2 million downloads to date. This partnership combines Sourcefire’s innovative network discovery and intrusion management solutions with Crossbeam’s high performance, high availability platform.

Nick Garlick, managing director at Nebulas Security said: “We are very excited that Sourcefire’s award winning technologies will now be available on the Crossbeam architecture. As a reseller of both Crossbeam and Sourcefire, this integration is truly significant for our customers as it will enable us to implement a highly consolidated unified threat management solution at a fraction of the cost.”

With this partnership, customers can now implement a single platform that includes Sourcefire’s leading 3D System coupled with complementary best of breed security technologies supported by Crossbeam such as Check Point, Aladdin, and Secure Computing. This is the first time that any vendor has delivered Sourcefire’s award winning technology, including RNA, on a unified threat management platform. Sourcefire RNA provides users with the ability to continuously identify and monitor all assets and vulnerabilities on their networks in real-time.

“Driven by increasing customer demand for layering in and consolidating Intrusion Prevention solutions on a single high performance integrated network security switch, it was a natural step to expand our portfolio of available security applications to include Sourcefire,” said James Clegg, regional director for UK and Nordics at Crossbeam. “By delivering the Sourcefire 3D System, we are providing customers with all of the tools they need to protect their systems in real time from threats both inside and outside their trusted network.”

“Sourcefire’s approach to intrusion and vulnerability management offers significant security advantages over competitive offerings,” said Tom McDonough, president and COO of Sourcefire. “By combining Sourcefire’s Intrusion management and RNA capabilities with additional security offerings on Crossbeam’s leading platform, our companies are providing customers with best of breed solutions for protecting the world’s most demanding networks.”

As the pioneer of integrated security devices, Crossbeam’s X-Series and C-Series products feature a patent-pending architecture that integrates best of breed security applications (firewall/VPN, intrusion prevention and protection, content security and Web filtering) from leading security companies. Crossbeam’s high performance, highly available security services switches are protecting more than 500 enterprise and service provider networks worldwide.

About Sourcefire’s 3D System
Sourcefire’s 3D Approach – Discover, Determine, Defend – to securing real networks in real-time provides proactive defence-in-depth through an integrated process of discovering risks, vulnerabilities and threats; determining their business impact; and taking the appropriate action to defend the network. Sourcefire’s 3D System, including Sourcefire Intrusion Sensors and Agents, Sourcefire RNA Sensors and the Sourcefire Defense Center, provides companies with the most effective security possible.

The Sourcefire 3D System offers the most flexible and precise intrusion prevention and network discovery technologies worldwide. Sourcefire Intrusion Sensors utilise the award-winning Snort rules-based detection engine, bringing the benefits of signature, protocol, and anomaly-based inspection methods to all network traffic at speeds up to 8 gigabits per second. In addition, Sourcefire RNA Sensors passively monitor a network to deliver highly detailed, real-time profiles of all network assets including their configuration, behavior, potential vulnerabilities and associated changes. By tightly integrating and correlating the threat information provided by Sourcefire Intrusion Sensors and Agents with the network intelligence provided by Sourcefire RNA Sensors, the Sourcefire Defense Center easily prioritises the millions of security events to determine the most critical events to an organisation’s business and takes the appropriate actions. These actions follow the ABCs of Defense – Alert, Block, Correct – all in real-time to deliver the most effective security.
