Kaspersky Lab Releases Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.5 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2000/2003
Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, has released Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.5 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2000/2003. This latest software solution is part of the company’s portfolio of products designed to protect corporate networks. It incorporates a range of technological and architectural upgrades in comparison with the previous version.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Microsoft Exchange Server provides comprehensive protection for mail servers by checking all incoming and outgoing mail messages, as well as embedded objects, for the presence of malicious code. The solution quickly and effectively neutralizes malicious code to prevent it from spreading further. It incorporates a wide range of functions for processing infected objects, including the option to rename infected and suspicious messages and move them to a quarantine folder. To boost performance, Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Microsoft Exchange Server offers the option to scanning mail using several streams, while the automated remote update function ensures maximum protection.
This new version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Microsoft Exchange Server is easier to use, with a revamped graphical interface that is fully integrated with Microsoft Management Console. The new interface enables administrators to begin using the solution without any preliminary configuration and also extends configuration options. Additionally, the new interface significantly improves administrators’ ability to assign and set user rights to access programs through the network.
The upgraded solution is more effective in processing infected objects. It is possible to create backup copies of infected objects before processing them, meaning that objects can either be restored or sent to Kaspersky Lab for analysis. Users enjoy heightened protection due to the fact that the solution can be configured to automatically detect virus epidemics. Timely notification of epidemics enables administrators to take prompt action.
Version 5.5 also provides improved protection against malicious code. Multiple copies of the antivirus engine can be run, with the number optimized in accordance with the number of processors running. The options for checking objects in RAM have also been extended. Up to 10 objects of 1MB each can be scanned simultaneously in RAM without accessing hard disk resources. This new version also gives administrators greater control over the level of protection during set-up. There is now an option to choose between three types of antivirus databases – standard, extended and super secure. Spyware is detected using the standard and extended databases, depending on whether or not the program is actively malicious or potentially hostile. Riskware is detected using the extended and super secure databases. Kaspersky Lab virus analysts use riskware to describe adware, legal programs that have been used by hackers, dialers and other potentially hostile programs. Reporting and statistics systems have also been upgraded, allowing administrators to configure a range of report and logging parameters, including the option to generate regular reports on solution performance and the status of antivirus protection at any given point in time. Reports can be created either automatically or on demand, and can be accessed using standard Microsoft applications such as Internet Explorer. Reports can also be distributed via email.
Unlike the previous version Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.5 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2000/2003 is designed to work only with Microsoft Exchange Server 2000/2003, and cannot be used with Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5.
