Secure storage bit-level splitting technology patent acquired

Internet Initiative Japan, one of Japan’s leading Internet access providers, announced the acquisition of exclusive license to SB Systems Inc.’s patented information technology that splits files at the bit-level for secure storage.

This technology divides electronic information into multiple pieces of data and mixes this data with dummy data before saving it. The original data is thus concealed among the dummy data and can only be restored by first retrieving the multiple bits of the original data.

Electronic information is generally very easy to duplicate, and there have been many cases of data being used or sold without the consent of the owner. This technology protects against information leaks and secures information even in the event that it is lost or stolen.

IIJ will use this technology to develop security services and, through broad distribution in the marketplace, promote the safe use of information technology.
