McAfee completes SafeBoot acquisition
McAfee announced that it has completed the acquisition of all the outstanding capital stock of SafeBoot Holding B.V. for approximately $350 million in cash. Through the acquisition, McAfee becomes a leader in the data protection market and the only vendor to deliver endpoint, network, Web, e-mail and data security, as well as risk and compliance solutions. McAfee now offers a complete security risk management solution to protect confidential data regardless of how the data is used, located, stored or accessed.
As previously announced, Gerhard Watzinger, the chief executive officer of SafeBoot, will lead the newly-established Data Protection product business unit and will report directly to Dave DeWalt, chief executive officer and president of McAfee.
McAfee plans to integrate SafeBoot technology into McAfee ePO, McAfee’s centralized management console for enterprise customers. Users will be able to encrypt individual files and folders as well as the entire local hard drive for the widest possible range of devices, including PCs, laptops, smart phones, USB drives and PDAs. SafeBoot’s mobile phone offerings will help advance McAfee’s current mobile solutions by allowing McAfee to offer a new comprehensive suite of integrated device protection and data security.
