Blackpoint Cyber launches MDR service offering

Blackpoint Cyber launches its Managed Detection and Response (MDR) service offering. It leverages its next-generation security operations and incident response platform SNAP-Defense in addition to its newly completed Security Operations Center (SOC) based in Ellicott City, MD.

Traditional outsourced SIEM-as-a-service and basic endpoint protection check compliance boxes but do not provide the protection companies need to operate in the current cyber threat environment. Blackpoint’s decision to launch an MDR service was based on customer and channel partner demand as well as the need to move beyond the antiquated and ineffective log analytics model.

Companies paying for the traditional outsourced security model continue to suffer breaches that are detected many months after the damage is done. From the start, Blackpoint focused on developing and delivering a detection and response capability while reducing the resources needed by our direct clients and channel partners.

The service

Blackpoint’s MDR service is underpinned by its patented SNAP-Defense platform. This technology combines proprietary endpoint, core network mapping, and traffic threat detection appliance to deliver automated alert enrichment with an option to respond and neutralize a breach. In addition, Blackpoint utilizes its newly constructed SOC to provide coverage for its customers, threat intelligence operations, and streamlined threat response.

The pedigree

Blackpoint’s technical staff and analysts include former US Intelligence cyber operations experts with a passion for protection and loyalty. These individuals have hands-on experience understanding and securing real-world, mission-critical networks and organizations in addition to expertise on hacker tools, tactics, and techniques.

The technology

Blackpoint’s SNAP-Defense is a product that took over three years to develop. It combines proprietary endpoint, network mapping/visibility, and traffic analysis technology in a cloud-based offering. In addition, SNAP-Defense supports point-and-click integrations with third-party technologies from Cisco, Sophos, Webroot, Tenable, ConnectWise and more, offering the benefits of an orchestrated security operations and incident response platform for the price of an advanced endpoint product.

“We developed SNAP-Defense because we honestly felt there was too much marketing and selling of hope and hype technologies in the cyber security industry. So, we created a cost-efficient and incredibly effective capability. Launching our MDR service, which leverages our new SOC and world-class analyst talent, allows us to provide this nation-state grade security at affordable prices to more clients and organizations.” said Jon Murchison, the CEO of Blackpoint.
