Ocient announced the appointment of highly-respected and seasoned data analytics veteran Ian Drury to the role of chief technology officer (CTO).

Additionally, Ocient announced that it doubled its workforce in the past 12 months in order to take advantage of significant growth and customer demand.

Ocient’s new CTO, Ian Drury, brings more than two decades of experience in the database, data analytics and technology industries and in managing engineering teams at scale. Drury also brings a breadth of expertise across both early-stage companies and large global brands like TransUnion with extensive analytical systems at their core.

Most recently serving as a General Partner at OCA Ventures, an Ocient co-lead investor, Drury contributed to the growth of OCA Ventures’ early-stage technology portfolio and led diligence on emerging disruptive startups in the enterprise technology space.

“I’m thrilled to join Ocient during this critical moment of growth across new customers and industries,” Drury said. “Ocient is accelerating the delivery of previously not possible hyperscale data analysis at high performance levels and low costs never seen before. This market is growing exponentially year over year and I look forward to being part of the team re-defining how to derive significant business value from data at hyperscale.”

In addition to appointing Ian Drury, Ocient added 63 employees last year, more than doubling its headcount. Ocient’s expanded team of industry experts includes key additions to its product, engineering, sales, marketing and customer relations teams to support a growing number of customers in pilot and production with its use case-driven solutions for adtech, lawful intercept, telecommunications, operational IT and geospatial.

“At Ocient, we’re thrilled to continue the expansion of our team with industry-leading experts who are the best at what they do,” said Chris Gladwin, CEO and co-founder of Ocient. “Ian brings more than 25 years of experience and understands the complexities of generating intelligence at hyperscale. Our growth demonstrates customers’ fast-growing need to harness trillions of valuable data records in interactive time and to do so with a partner like Ocient that will work closely with them to develop new revenue streams at a fundamentally better price point and with an accelerated time to value.”

“Whether chasing emerging opportunities or navigating market uncertainty, companies recognize that timely access to data analytics at scale is no longer a luxury but an absolute, foundational necessity,” said Bradley Shimmin, Chief Analyst AI Platforms, Analytics, and Data Management at Omdia. “Even so, only 16% of companies looking to digitally transform their business by exploiting the value of data have successfully realized such efforts, underscoring the importance of an investment in a data architecture that can easily accommodate petabytes of data not just departmentally but across the entire company.”

New channel and alliance partnerships

In yet another development highlighting its momentum, Ocient in 2021 formed new channel and alliance partnerships with SS8 Networks, Gigamon, Cubro, Tableau, A-VAR, Axial and Amdocs. Ocient was chosen for large, complex data analytics challenges where existing solutions could not handle the sheer volume and speed required to return mission critical insights.
