Check Point Software First to Secure Web Services

XML/SOAP security made possible with Breakthrough Application Intelligence Technology

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Aug. 27, 2002 – Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced it has enhanced its market-leading Internet security solution with Application Intelligence Technology to provide integrated security for Web services’ two most commonly used protocols, XML and SOAP – making Check Point the first and only company to provide complete XML and SOAP security. Check Point’s breakthrough solution ensures the validity and integrity of Web services communications, enabling organizations to securely share information directly between business applications without compromising the integrity of their networks.

“While highly efficient, Web services also introduces security risk due to the fact that they were designed to pass through standard perimeter firewalls unexamined – potentially hiding malicious threats,” said Carol Stone, vice president of marketing, Check Point Software Technologies. “Today, Check Point extends its market-leading security technology to protect XML and SOAP transactions, enabling businesses to reap the significant benefits associated with Web services.”

In addition to the new Application Intelligence Technology, Web services implementations inherit all of the powerful, market-leading security protection Check Point is known for, including:

Stateful Inspection of Web services traffic from the network layer to the application layer
Centralized management with SmartCenter
Authentication, authorization and secure sign-on with UserAuthorityâ„?
Prioritization of Web services traffic using Check Point’s Quality of Service (QoS) solution, FloodGate-1®

Stone continued, “Check Point’s commitment to enabling customers to connect their business critical systems while attaining the utmost security is once again demonstrated. Our new web Application Intelligence security technology raises the bar for Internet security and reaffirms VPN-1/FireWall-1’s leading position at the forefront of e-Business security and infrastructure.”

Availability
Security for XML and SOAP will be available at no additional cost in the latest version of Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 Next Generation, Feature Pack 3, in September 2002.

Securing Web services extends Check Point’s vision of making Internet communications available and secure everywhere and demonstrates Check Point’s on-going commitment to developing innovative security solutions required to meet the needs of today’s dynamic enterprise environments.
