CyberGuard Firewall Earns Highest Overall Satisfaction Rate of 4.1 From Nation’s Largest Companies in Information Security’s Reader

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb. 5, 2001– CyberGuard Corporation (OTC: CYBG), the technology leader in network security, received outstanding ratings from large enterprise and government users in Information Security Magazine’s 2001 reader survey. Readers were asked to rate how products met expectations on an ascending scale of one to five. The CyberGuard Firewall garnered the highest satisfaction rate overall with a 4.1 average, beating out all of the competitors including Check Point’s Firewall 1, Axent Raptor, Cisco PIX and NetScreen.

CyberGuard, showing dominance in the large enterprise and government sectors, received the only perfect score given by readers — for the performance of its firewall in enterprises with more than 50,000 employees. CyberGuard’s firewall also achieved the highest ratings among government users, beating out the Axent Raptor, Check Point’s Firewall 1 and NAI Gauntlet.

Mike Wittig, CyberGuard’s chief technology officer, commented, “Most of our firewalls are in high-end corporate and government enterprises. Users in those environments are sophisticated about their security requirements and have high expectations of their security providers. It is extremely gratifying to get this confirmation of our firewall technology from those end users.”

The CyberGuard Firewall, the backbone of the recently released firewall appliances STARLord, KnightSTAR and FireSTAR, has won a variety of industry accolades and recently attained the prestigious Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4 (EAL4) certification. The appliances, the first in the world to carry the EAL4 accreditation, feature a hardened UNIX operating system bundled with the software.
