STOCKHOLM – January 21, 2002 – Columbitech, a leading provider of software for secure wireless access, released today its Columbitech Wireless VPN for Pocket PC 2002 – and will demonstrate it at Comdex Nordic in Gothenburg, Sweden, January 22-24, together with SAP. This demonstration follows a successful test project in which Columbitech, SAP, and Compaq brought wireless enterprise connectivity to one of Stockholm’s Wayne’s Coffees, a major chain of coffee shops.

Making Pocket PC devices into effective wireless tools for businesses will involve overcoming a host of common frustrations users have with wireless phones, while also meeting the data security requirements of enterprise IT departments. Columbitech Wireless VPN is a software solution built to meet these needs. It bypasses common problems associated with wireless data communication, such as download interruption and having to re-login every time the signal fails. Session Resume technology maintains the same session and VPN tunnel even when the wireless signal fades out, eliminating the need to re-login into another VPN tunnel. Transaction Recovery technology enables the wireless device to pick up an interrupted download right where it left off before interruption. This is executed with maximum security through authentication, strong encryption, and PKI support. Features such as compression, data reduction, and seamless roaming enhance performance and convenience further.

While Pocket PC devices are becoming increasingly appealing to enterprises, Columbitech recognizes that many of them already use notebook PCs to increase employee productivity through mobility. To that end, the company also released today its Columbitech Wireless VPN for Windows XP, to complement its currently available version for Windows 2000.

“SAP believes that it is important to be able to improve our offering to new as well as existing customers. Therefore we see great strengths in Columbitech’s technology because it can cope with the demands that we as well as our customers put on security when dealing with wireless data communication,” said Peter Alvmo, CRM Manager, SAP.

“Wireless technologies on Compaq’s iPAQ have seen a strong development curve during the last year. Solutions like Columbitech Wireless VPN are important to guarantee users security, while maintaining a satisfying user experience,” said Bj?¶rn S?¶derberg, Wireless Manager, Compaq Sweden.

“This cooperation among the leading providers of wireless enabling technologies is a major step forward in delivering a real-world solution for mobile staff. Instead of just predicting it, the Comdex demo and the coffee shop project show how mobile workers can access practically any data from their corporate server in a secure and convenient manner, independent of location,” said Pontus Bergdahl, CEO Columbitech.
