McAfee.com Aggressively Extends Customer Acquisition Efforts by Offering Web Services Through System Aggregators
Company Will Offer CD-ROMs Containing McAfee.com Security Services To Consumers Through Major Retail Outlets
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — McAfee.com (Nasdaq: MCAF), a leading provider of Web security services, today announced that it has signed agreements with a number of system aggregators in an effort to offer its services more widely to consumers. Aggregators will sublicense and distribute McAfee.com’s products on CD-ROM for use in promotions, affinity offers, bundles and other alternative distribution programs. By providing its Web-based security services on CD-ROM, McAfee.com will now be able to offer its services to tens of thousands of additional customers at one of several major retail outlets when they purchase new PCs. System aggregators are companies that provide single software titles or multiple title software bundles through major retail chains that sell computers. Aggregators make it possible for consumers to purchase much of the software they want at the same time and place that they purchase their PCs. The software CD-ROMs are made available to purchasers immediately in the stores, offering them an array of software choices regardless of the make and manufacturer of the PC.

Initially, McAfee.com will focus on its core products — VirusScan Online and Personal Firewall — for distribution through these aggregators. The company expects the offers to become available in stores during the second quarter of this year.
