NetIQ Debuts Directory Security Administrator

Enhances Microsoft’s Active Directory Security Model

SAN JOSE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 14, 2002–

New Security Capabilities At Core Of Enhanced NetIQ Administration

Suite 2.0 Standard Edition, Released Today

NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq:NTIQ), a leading provider of e-business infrastructure management and intelligence solutions, today announced the availability of the NetIQ(R) Directory Security Administrator(TM). Directory Security Administrator enhances the security provided in Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory by giving administrators a centralized interface to easily visualize, search for and modify Active Directory Access Control Lists (ACLs). Directory Security Administrator joins an upgraded suite of existing applications as part of NetIQ Administration Suite version 2.0, Standard Edition, released today. NetIQ also announced today the availability of the Administration Suite, Advanced Edition. For more information please see the press release at http://www.netiq.com/news/press_releases/2002/020114gpa.asp

Directory Security Administrator provides a central view across the enterprise of objects in the directory structure and displays their associated permissions. Administrators can easily identify assigned rights and privileges and make changes to ACLs as necessary. Directory Security Administrator’s unique permissions search capability allows administrators to easily and quickly determine where permissions are set and manage the rights of users, groups or machines on objects throughout a domain. Directory Security Administrator helps IT personnel significantly simplify administration by automating time consuming manual tasks and increases security by tracking and enforcing access rights.

“Active Directory’s ACL-based security model is powerful, but because it’s so extensive, it can be difficult to manage,” said Tom Kemp, senior vice president of products at NetIQ. “By adding Directory Security Administrator to NetIQ’s award-winning Administration Suite, we’re helping IT professionals get the most out of Active Directory’s sophisticated security capabilities creating a more secure enterprise.”

The NetIQ Administration Suite, Standard Edition provides powerful and comprehensive administration for Windows NT 4, Windows 2000/Active Directory, Exchange 5.5, Exchange 2000 and Windows resources such as printers, file shares and file systems. The suite also includes powerful reporting capabilities that assess the current state of the computing environment and produce more than 100 reports spanning all managed objects. Directory Security Administrator joins the following existing applications in the suite:

— Directory and Resource Administrator — the award-winning

product that provides highly secure distributed and automated

administration of Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000/Active

Directory environments.

— Exchange Administrator — integrates with Directory and

Resource Administrator to automate and simplify Exchange 5.5

and Exchange 2000 mailbox management across Windows NT 4 and

Windows 2000 enterprises.

— File Security Administrator — supplies file security

management and reporting across Windows NT and Windows 2000

file servers throughout the enterprise.

— Configuration Assessor — provides on-demand reporting

capabilities, allowing IT managers to assess their

environment, track system changes over time and identify

security weaknesses.

“Microsoft is pleased to broaden an already strong relationship with NetIQ,” said Jackson Shaw, Active Directory product manager at Microsoft. “Windows 2000 administrators know the NetIQ name well and will certainly benefit from the introduction of NetIQ Administration Suite 2.0, and Directory Security Administrator and Group Policy Administrator in particular.”

“Directory Security Administrator is an effective tool for network administrators and security managers. It provides an easy interface to control access to network permissions/rights with a familiar Microsoft interface,” said Jim Etienne, information risk manager, Gruntal & Co.
