Network Giant Deploys SafeWord to Secure Network and Web Access

SAN JOSE, Calif., October 10, 2001 – Secure Computing Corporation (NASDAQ: SCUR), a leading provider of enterprise access control solutions, today announced that Alcatel (Paris: CGEP, NYSE: ALA), a world leader in the high-speed access and optical transport market, selected Secure’s SafeWord(tm) authentication and authorization solution to provide secure, remote-user access.

Alcatel, with its expertise in communications systems, its line of products and services as well as its strong global presence, is a major player in the area of telecommunications and the Internet.

“We considered several vendors in our search for an authentication solution to enhance our current network infrastructure and support our future e-business objectives,” said Mario Della Bruna, CTO of Alcanet International, Alcatel’s internal services group. “SafeWord provides Alcatel with a scalable solution using standards-based encryption technology to meet our growing network and web access control needs.”

Secure’s SafeWord solution meets today’s e-business challenges with the most advanced solutions for user authentication and access control. With strong authentication, SafeWord eliminates vulnerabilities associated with traditional, memorized passwords. SafeWord allows organizations to provide their remote users, including customers, vendors and business partners, with easy, efficient, yet controlled access to their Extranets.

Alcatel has deployed 30,000 SafeWord tokens and licenses worldwide and plans to implement Secure’s SafeWord PlusTM solution, with PKI for VPN and web access control in the near future.

“Alcatel’s desire to expand their network infrastructure to securely accommodate remote users, and eventually customers and partners, mirrors the migration offered with Secure’s SafeWord product family,” said Secure’s Andrew Philpott, vice president European Sales. “We offer a solution that enables organizations to rapidly grow their web and network access with the confidence that only the right people will cross their information boundaries.”
