Pepperdine’s New Graduate School Portal Uses iKey for Web Authentication

Rainbow’s iKey Delivers Powerful Two-Factor Web Authentication and Access Control for Students at Graziadio School of Business

MALIBU, Calif., March 19, 2002 – Rainbow eSecurity, a Rainbow Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: RNBO) company and a leading provider of digital content and transaction security, today announced that the iKey® USB-based Web authentication token will provide end-user authentication and access for students at Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management. The new GraziadioNet graduate school portal is an electronic community of students, faculty, staff and administrators for Pepperdine’s Graziadio School of Business and Management, which has an enrollment of 2,600 students at six campuses throughout Southern California.

The iKey is a device that fits on a key chain. It can be used to authenticate a GraziadioNet user and grant access to the user based on his or her authorization level. The iKey provides users with a means of securely accessing data and applications from any Web-enabled client device with a USB port. The new portal was designed and developed by Rainbow Spectria (SM), a Rainbow Technologies company based in Long Beach, Calif.

“As more information moves to the Web, organizational portals like GraziadioNet are perfect vehicles for providing useful data to students, faculty and staff,” said Shawn Abbott, president of Rainbow eSecurity. “The iKey enables GraziadioNet users to securely access their personalized data from campus resources, their home offices or from work. As new generations of software applications move to Web-based portals and intranets, authentication and authorization become critical for IT departments and end users alike. With iKey, Web authentication is as easy as plugging the token into the USB port.”

“Since many of our students are full-time employees expanding their education, we purposely chose business products to build GraziadioNet to give our students a real-world experience and a real-world application,” said Charla Griffy-Brown, director of the Graziadio Center for Innovative Business Resources, which administers the GraziadioNet. “The iKey has proven to be an effective tool to provide secure Web access for our students, while still being easy to use.”

The GraziadioNet enables students, faculty, alumni and staff to participate in a wide variety of online learning, research and communication activities. It improves the students’ ability to access information resources from the Graziadio School and the Internet at any time and from any location. The GraziadioNet creates a sense of community for students and faculty at six educational centers in the Los Angeles area. The system also links students and faculty at the School’s Northern California campus and at partner schools around the globe. Rainbow Spectria built the new portal leveraging tools commonly used by the business world for collaboration and personalization technologies.
