The Coalition of Orange County Community Clinics Uses Trend Micro Antivirus Solutions

Trend Micro Solutions Protect Information Technology; Enhances Member Clinics’ Health Care Services for Uninsured and Underinsured Populations

Cupertino, Calif. – March 18, 2002 – Trend Micro, Inc. (Nasdaq: TMIC; TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security solutions, today announced that the Coalition of Orange County Community Clinics (The Coalition) has deployed Trend Micro’s award-winning antivirus solutions across its clinics to keep its data virus-free, boost efficiency and, as a result, employee productivity. The Coalition is using Trend Micro ScanMail(r) for Microsoft(r) Exchange 2000, Trend Micro OfficeScan(tm) Corporate Edition and Trend Micro’s ServerProtect(tm), and rolled out 200 licenses within a two-week period for each of the products in 12 member clinics. The Coalition is a non-profit consortium of safety-net health care service providers dedicated to building and strengthening a community-wide system of comprehensive, high quality, accessible and affordable health care. Trend Micro’s service facility is located in Lake Forest, Calif., which is also in Orange County.

The Coalition was faced with daunting computer virus challenges in August 2001 with the advent of notorious worms including Nimda and Code Red. As a result, resources were mainly spent on fighting virus outbreaks and damage on a daily basis, which had a significant impact on the overall productivity of the member clinics’ ability to provide health care services to uninsured and underinsured populations.

Faced with disrupted service as a result of virus attacks, the Coalition began a search for a comprehensive enterprise-wide antivirus solution. The Coalition and its IT contractor, Certified Computer Service, Inc. evaluated numerous vendors and selected Trend Micro ScanMail(r) for Microsoft(r) Exchange 2000, Trend Micro OfficeScan(tm) Corporate Edition and Trend Micro’s ServerProtect(tm). Since implementing Trend Micro’s solutions, the Coalition’s system has been virus-free, ending IT delays and enabling the Coalition, and its member clinics, to focus on their core mission. Trend Micro ScanMail for Microsoft(r) Exchange 2000 is a highly scalable, multi-threaded antivirus solution that enables complete and uniform security policies across an enterprise. Trend Micro OfficeScan(tm) Corporate Edition is a real-time, antivirus solution for the networked desktop environment, allowing administrators to easily manage policies for the entire organization. Trend Micro’s ServerProtect(tm) provides antivirus scanning throughout the network for Windows(r) 2000/NT and Novell NetWare file servers. ServerProtect(tm) provides centralized management, event reporting, and antivirus configuration.

“Building a secure infrastructure is fundamental to improve the evolving clinic network. Fighting virus battles across member clinics was once a daily battle, but since we deployed the Trend Micro solutions, the outbreaks have been effectively halted,” said Mike Matull, Director of Information Technology, Coalition of Orange County Community Clinics. “Trend Micro’s superior antivirus products are the least intrusive to the computing experience on a workstation compared with the competition. The server products are extremely efficient and have streamlined overall server performance.”

Through ease of installation and administration, Trend Micro has enabled the Coalition to concentrate its IT efforts on advance technologies such as custom written database applications for clinics. By deploying Trend Micro solutions, the Coalition has been able to focus energy on adding value and implement higher level IT to support decisions for its member clinics instead of managing virus outbreaks and their resulting network damage. To complement the Trend Micro solutions, the Coalition further enhanced its protective shield through the addition of firewall technology.
