Trend Micro Previews Protection for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 at MEC

New antivirus solution provides real-time virus and malicious code protection for Microsoft’s new document management and knowledge sharing solution

Microsoft Exchange Conference: Booth #311

Orlando, FL – September 30, 2001 – Trend Micro Inc. (Nasdaq: TMIC, TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security solutions, today announced a new antivirus solution for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server, code named “Project Fortress.” Scheduled to ship in Q1 2002, Project Fortress provides complete antivirus and malicious code protection for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server environments, regardless of how data is published to or retrieved from the SharePoint Portal Server database. A preview of this new solution will be available for demonstration at Trend Micro’s booth #311 at MEC 2001, the infrastructure planning and deployment conference in Orlando, Florida.

Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server is a new portal solution that extends the capabilities of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office XP by offering a powerful new way to organize, find, and share information. It combines the ability to easily create corporate Web portals with document management, enterprise content indexing, and team collaboration features.

With the Project Fortress solution, corporations can quickly take advantage of the benefits that SharePoint Portal Server brings to the organization, without compromising network security. Built on the market leading Trend Micro ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 2000 antivirus technology, and the new Microsoft virus-scanning API 2.0, Project Fortress provides an added line of defense to shield critical data and communications in the event of a virus outbreak or malicious code threat.

Key features include:

Easy-to-use Web interface plugs into the Microsoft SharePoint Portal digital dashboard site or stand-alone Web console enabling administrators to easily configure scan options, consolidate virus reports, review the latest virus threats, and update the latest virus pattern or scan engine from a single point, regardless of platform or physical location

Proactive, multi-threaded, memory-scanning process provides real-time protection for all content that is published to the SharePoint Portal Server document library and ensures 100 percent scanning of all content before it is accessed by end users

Simple and user-friendly remote and local deployment process allows antivirus software to be deployed to single or multiple SharePoint Portal Servers across the enterprise, thereby saving time and resources

Integration with the Microsoft virus-scanning API (VS API) 2.0 ensures high-speed scanning with a limited performance impact on the SharePoint Portal Server, and preserves the integrity of the Web store database and its mission critical content

“Over the past few months, we have been working closely with Trend Micro to develop an antivirus solution for the Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001,” said Gytis Barzdukas, group product manager for the Portal Business Group at Microsoft Corp. “We understand that antivirus software is a ‘must have’ for our SharePoint Portal Server customers, and we are pleased that Trend Micro is focused on delivering a security solution to meet their needs.”

“Microsoft provides a critical solution to enterprises with its SharePoint Portal Server offering,” said Charlie Stuart, director of Global Alliances for Trend Micro. “We are pleased to be working with Microsoft to provide antivirus solutions that seamlessly integrate with Microsoft technology and offer an added layer of protection at all levels of the enterprise.”
