Timing is everything during a virus outbreak. With ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 2000 and ScanMail eManager, IT professionals can easily and quickly implement a proactive real-time solution to address a new virus or malicious content threat, without having to wait for a new virus pattern file. By using the advanced content filtering capabilities built into ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 2000 and ScanMail eManager, IT professionals are a step ahead of the next major virus outbreak.

New Features in ScanMail for Exchange 2000 Version 6.0 with eManager

ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 2000 V6.0 with eManager provides complete antivirus and content security for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server environments and includes the following new features:

Attachment Blocking: eManager’s advanced anti-spam capabilities have been enhanced to enable administrators to not only block email based on message body content and the “to”, “from”, and “subject” message properties, but also by the file name and/or the size of the attachment itself. This new feature is key in managing bandwidth usage and can be extremely helpful during virus outbreaks as it enables immediate blocking of viruses circulating in a particular email message or file attachment. The feature is fully customizable and contains an exclusion list so IT professionals easily can manage the flow of message content and attachments passed to and from the Microsoft Exchange 2000 environment.

Inbound/Outbound Content and Attachment Scanning: ScanMail eManager has also been enhanced to include both inbound and outbound scanning of message body content as well as scanning of text, HTML, and Word document attachments. These new features give IT professionals the tools they need to prevent new virus outbreaks from infiltrating the Microsoft Exchange 2000 environment, and the ability to easily enforce consistent enterprise-wide email policies to ensure maximum employee productivity, message flow and up time in the Exchange 2000 Server environment.

Active Message Filter: A new real-time message purge feature has been incorporated into ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 2000 V6.0 to block mass mailing email virus messages and specified attachments before they are delivered to the end-user’s mailbox. The Active Message Filter also eliminates inbound and outbound messages containing zero byte attachments before they are delivered to users’ mailboxes, preventing unproductive content from reaching end-users both within or outside the organization. This advanced feature enables organizations to dramatically reduce human resource costs and the performance hit on the Exchange 2000 Server during virus outbreaks. It has the added benefit of reducing support calls to the help desk and saving the company potential embarrassment by preventing previously infected email from reaching its customers or business partners.

“With the launch of ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 2000 V6.0 with ScanMail eManager V5.0, Trend Micro provides a comprehensive, real-time and proactive antivirus and content filtering solution for Microsoft Exchange 2000,” said Kevin McCuistion, Exchange Group product manager at Microsoft Corp. “We’re excited to see how partners have embraced Exchange 2000 to build solutions that deliver real business value to our customers and are pleased that Trend Micro is focused on working with Microsoft to provide a platform for enhanced security.”

“Viruses and malicious content can interrupt productivity, and in a severe situation, shut down business activity all together,” says Oscar Chang, senior vice president of product development for Trend Micro. “With ScanMail for Exchange 2000 and ScanMail eManager, Trend Micro is addressing this important email security issue and helping to ensure the reliability and uptime of the Exchange 2000 messaging and collaboration environment.”

Additional ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Version 6.0 Features

ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 2000 V6.0 is part of Trend Micro’s comprehensive multi-layered approach to protecting organizations against the threat of computer viruses and other malicious code. By incorporating the multi-threaded scanning feature, ScanMail can scale to protect organizations of any size against email-borne viruses in the Microsoft Exchange 2000 environment without negatively impacting server performance or message flow.

ScanMail addresses virus and content security needs in the Exchange 2000 environment by providing protection for SMTP, HTTP, MAPI, POP3, and IMAP4 protocols, including the Installable File System (IFS).

True file format scanning and blocking ensures that ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 2000 and ScanMail eManager will fully protect customers even if a user renames a file extension. In addition, ScanMail also supports wild card checking for blocking of new virus threats.

Remote management via ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange’s Windows or Web-based console or the Trend Virus Control System (Trend VCS â„?) enables IT professionals to manage and deploy the latest engine or pattern file during a virus outbreak across the entire Microsoft Exchange 2000 environment regardless of platform or physical location. Additionally, with this central management capability IT professionals can easily perform group configurations of any ScanMail option, create consolidated logs or reports, gather information about the latest virus outbreak or check the status of any ScanMail server across the entire network, thereby saving management time and resources.
