Trend Micro Unveils InterScan VirusWall 3.6 CSP with Support for NetScreen-100 and NetScreen-500

Cost-effective, easy-to-deploy security solutions for enterprises and service providers defend against sophisticated security threats and attacks

Las Vegas, NV – May 8, 2002 – Trend Micro, Inc. (Nasdaq: TMIC; TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in network antivirus and Internet content security solutions today announced at NetWorld+Interop 2002 the availability of its InterScan? VirusWall(tm) 3.6 Content Scanning Protocol (CSP) for two of NetScreen Technologies’ integrated security solutions – the NetScreen?-100 for medium and large enterprise offices, and the NetScreen(tm)-500 for large enterprise and service provider environments with high bandwidth or high capacity requirements. The combined offering, scheduled to be available at the end of May 2002, provides cost-effective, easy-to-deploy security solutions for enterprises and service providers that deploy NetScreen devices. The solution is on display at the NetScreen Booth # 2612, North Hall at NetWorld+Interop 2002 Las Vegas, taking place May 5-10, 2002 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

According to Computer Economics, viruses caused $13.2 billion in damage to organizations worldwide in 2001. Customers benefit from a tighter coupling between NetScreen’s integrated security solutions, which provide firewall, VPN traffic management, and denial of service attack protection features, and Trend Micro’s antivirus and malicious code protection software. This enables customers to enforce antivirus policies directly from the NetScreen firewall rulebase, avoid making changes to the network topography, and easily deploy the solution across the enterprise. As attacks and security threats become increasingly sophisticated, customers require security solutions that can interact with one another to ensure that these attacks can be repelled as quickly as possible.

NetScreen security devices, located at the perimeter and within an enterprise infrastructure, provide an ideal enforcement point to integrate security functions. By combining high-performance with very low latency, NetScreen devices are capable of enforcing the security decisions of expert intrusion detection systems (IDS) and antivirus systems in real time, creating a new level of content security; Trend Micro’s Content Scanning Protocol (CSP) enables high-performance communication/data transfer between the NetScreen firewall and InterScan VirusWall. The InterScan VirusWall 3.6 CSP Edition, and NetScreen integrated solution enables customers to combine point solutions into a unified security protection framework.

“We’re seeing an increase in customer demand for integrated, best of breed security solutions from leaders in their categories,” said Chandra Tekwani, Director of Business Development & Alliances Integration at NetScreen Technologies. “Partnering with Trend Micro enables NetScreen to provide customer-focused, integrated solutions and drive better value to its customers.”

Trend Micro’s InterScan VirusWall provides high-performance, three-in-one Internet gateway protection against viruses and malicious code. Key features include:

* Real-time Virus Detection at Gateway: Real-time virus detection and clean-up for all SMTP, HTTP, and FTP Internet traffic at the gateway
* Best of Breed: Blocks malicious mobile code (Java and ActiveX) at the gateway
* Flexible Configuration and Remote Management: Configures remotely using a Web browser or locally via Windows interface

“We are pleased that NetScreen supports Trend Micro’s Content Scanning Protocol to deliver an integrated solution to its customers,” said Brian McElroy, Director of Business Development for Trend Micro. “This solution allows enterprises and service providers the ability to provide fully integrated antivirus policies within the firewall.”
