Trend Micro Releases Enhanced Desktop Virus Protection for the Enterprise

OfficeScan Corporate Edition 5.02 is a key component of Trend Micro’s Enterprise Protection Strategy

Cupertino, CA – June 11, 2002 – Trend Micro, Inc. (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 4704; Nasdaq:TMIC), a global leader in antivirus and Internet content security, today announced the availability of OfficeScan Corporate Edition (CE) version 5.02, an enhanced version of its innovative antivirus solution for networked desktops. OfficeScan CE v5.02 is a robust, high performance, and scalable antivirus solution, designed to meet the needs of the largest-scale enterprise environments with its powerful centralized management, configuration, and reporting capabilities. The new version also includes Trend Microâ„? Damage Cleanup Services, making OfficeScan CE v.5.02 an integral component of Trend Micro’s Enterprise Protection Strategy initiative.

Trend Micro’s Enterprise Protection Strategy is a sweeping initiative that expands the functionality of Trend Micro solutions beyond the limits of traditional antivirus scanning and pattern file deployment. It provides customers with an array of tools and techniques that are designed to prevent or counter the effects of a virus during each stage of the outbreak lifecycle, from initial detection to cleanup and recovery. Customers can deploy these tools to help manage explosive outbreaks of new, unknown viruses with the goal of avoiding or at least minimizing the damage and disruption, thereby helping to reduce the cost of such attacks. “Centralized management is still the key,” said David Rowe, Trend Micro’s Executive Vice President for Global Marketing. “But with products like OfficeScan CE we’ve moved from deploying pattern files to managing the entire outbreak life cycle.”

Cleaning up systems and restoring damaged files is one of the most costly, time-consuming aspects of a virus outbreak, and must often be performed manually. To help reduce this burden on administrators, Trend Micro OfficeScan CE now includes an automated damage assessment and cleanup utility, Trend Micro Damage Cleanup Services, which checks for evidence of Trojan attacks and automatically repairs damage to a system caused by Trojans. William Suarez, Director of I.T. Architecture for Rational Software, Inc, notes that “the Trend Micro Damage Cleanup Services in OfficeScan 5.02 significantly improved our ability to automatically clean up after a system infection by eliminating the source of the infection.” Trend Micro Damage Cleanup Services is only the first of several virus repair and recovery services planned as a part of Trend Micro’s Enterprise Protection Strategy.

OfficeScan CE v5.02 also includes support for Microsoftâ„? Windowsâ„? XP , and added flexibility in support for mobile and remote users. “I’m impressed by OfficeScan 5.02’s “Remote Agent” feature, which enables mobile users to update virus protection through the Internet when they cannot access the corporate network,” said William Suarez at Rational Software, Inc. “With over 1500 laptop users in various offices and out in the field, we face a constant challenge to keep virus patterns and scan engines up to date. OfficeScan’s ability to keep “traveling” systems more closely in sync with the corporate standard significantly reduces the risk of a security compromise.”

About OfficeScan Corporate Edition
OfficeScan Corporate Edition is an easy-to-manage, centrally controlled antivirus solution that lets administrators deploy, enforce, and manage virus prevention on desktops throughout the enterprise, without requiring any involvement by end-users. Client software is installed on workstations for local virus scanning, but it can also be configured and updated from a central window or Web-based management console. The management console displays comprehensive information and generates custom log reports for any or all antivirus clients on the network. With OfficeScan Corporate Edition 5.02, administrators know that virus protection is installed, current, and active on every desktop and remote/mobile user laptop in the organization. Moreover, with Trend Micro Control Managerâ„?, a total centralized antivirus management tool, administrators have another layer of centralized management to help them smoothly integrate desktop virus protection into an overall enterprise-wide content security program.
