Rainbow Begins Worldwide Shipments of NetSwift iGate Web Security Appliance for Instant Private Web

Industry’s First Integrated Security Solution for Secure Access to Web-enabled Applications Begins Shipping in Western Europe, Asia Pacific Rim and Latin America

IRVINE, Calif., October 8, 2002 – Rainbow eSecurity, a Rainbow Technologies (Nasdaq: RNBO) company and a leading solutions provider for digital content and transaction security, today began shipments of the new NetSwift iGate Web security appliance throughout the world. The NetSwift iGate was first launched in North America, the United Kingdom and China in July and is now shipping to Western Europe and Japan, Australia and Korea in the Asia Pacific Rim, as well as to Latin American countries.

The NetSwift iGate is a new breed of SSL-based VPN extranet that creates an instant private Web for securing access to Web-enabled data and applications The NetSwift iGate can be installed and deployed for mid-market organizations of a few hundred to a few thousand users in less than a day. According to “SSL and Intelligent Traffic Delivery Products,” a report from Infonetics, a San Jose-based research organization, the worldwide market for Application-Layer VPN Gateway solutions will be $986 million by 2005.

“Given the increasing proliferation of hacks – that range from outright data theft and data destruction, to denial of service attacks, viruses and worms – corporations can no longer afford to ignore security or practice it in 20/20 hindsight,” said Laura DiDio, an analyst with the Yankee Group, Boston. “Rainbow Technologies’ NetSwift iGate appliance is an efficient, cost-effective solution that corporations can install to secure their internal and Web-based data with minimal disruption to their network operations.”

“Traditional virtual private network (VPN) solutions require significant efforts for IT staff to deploy and manage on an ongoing basis, and are overkill for what most of the enterprise’s employees, and all of the customers and partners need on a regular basis,” said Eric Hemmendinger, research director for security and privacy at Aberdeen Group, Boston. “The NetSwift iGate is a comprehensive, end-to-end solution for safely extending access to Web-enabled applications for use by customers, partners and employees. Moreover, the NetSwift iGate is easier to deploy and simpler for users, which addresses the two biggest hurdles with traditional VPN solutions.

Creating an Instant Private Web
The NetSwift iGate’s end-user authentication and SSL acceleration technology creates a complete instant private Web to secure access to Web-enabled applications. Granular security for each employee based on his or her profile provides access from the client’s browser to a single Web server or to multiple backend servers. Unlike typical VPNs, the NetSwift iGate Web security appliance can be deployed quickly – often in less than a day – and requires no reconfiguration of network servers, Internet/Intranet firewalls or Web-enabled applications. It simply drops in between the server and firewall. NetSwift iGate users can easily configure their USB authentication keys in seconds using drivers downloaded off the corporate Intranet and can be up and running in seconds.

The NetSwift iGate solution uses Rainbow’s award-winning USB iKey for powerful, two-factor authentication of clients who need access to business-critical Web-enabled applications. The iKey effectively eliminates the inherent weakness in username/password security that typically takes up as much as 50 percent of any organization’s help desk services according to several analyst organizations.

The NetSwift acceleration and security appliance provides complete encryption of all network traffic at the server between itself and the browser using industry-standard SSL security built into the browser. This secures Web site content and eliminates costs associated with installing and managing VPN client software. The central management and SSL acceleration of NetSwift iGate reduces the cost and complexity of manually installing SSL on Web servers and significantly lowers the total cost of ownership by eliminating the need to purchase SSL certificates for each physical Web server.

The NetSwift iGate appliance can be configured via serial connection, SSH connection or a Web-based GUI. Users and access control lists are managed remotely using Rainbow’s Java-based access control manager application that allows customers to import existing users and groups from Windows® domain controllers.
