Trend Micro Delivers Enterprise-level Outbreak Prevention and Damage Cleanup Services for Networked Computers and Servers

OfficeScan(tm) and ServerProtect(tm) further extend service capabilities to support Trend Micro Enterprise Protection Strategy

Cupertino, CA – February 5, 2003 – Trend Micro Inc (TSE: 4704; Nasdaq: TMIC), a leader in network antivirus and Internet content security software and services, today announced the availability of new versions of its security software for network servers and client systems. To support the company’s Enterprise Protection Strategy, the products include new technology enabling the prevention of virus and other malicious code outbreaks through unique attack containment components, as well as new technology to automate post-attack system restoration minimize downtime and maintain the productivity of corporate networks.

The newest versions of OfficeScan Corporate Edition 5.5 for desktop and mobile systems and ServerProtect 5.5 for Windows(tm) servers are part of a comprehensive family of products that now enable IT security administrators to deliver attack-specific policies to all points of the network running Trend Micro products, from the Internet gateway down to file servers and individual client systems. Specifically, administrators can automatically deploy outbreak prevention policies to block threats that may enter through, exploit, or harm a client system or file server.

IT security administrators can now also manage the problems left by virus infections by using Trend Micro Damage Cleanup Services. If viruses or other malicious code evade detection on a single server or client system, they may later re-emerge to infect the network again. With Trend Micro’s newest server and client products, administrators can broadly deploy attack-specific and device-specific cleaning templates to ServerProtect 5.5 and OfficeScan 5.5 to automate the process of cleaning up malicious code and repairing system damage and security holes caused by an attack.

With the latest version of OfficeScan, IT security administrators can further enforce corporate security policies through integration with Check Point’s VPN-1(r) SecureClient(tm). This level of integration enables Check Point’s VPN software to verify if any client system using OfficeScan has the most updated antivirus software prior to allowing it to connect to the corporate network, thus thwarting a common avenue of infection.

“Integrating Trend Micro’s OfficeScan Corporate Edition 5.5 with Check Point’s VPN-1 SecureClient Next Generation?¤ solution provides additional network protection by enforcing corporate security policies at the desktop,” states Upesh Patel, group manager, OPSEC Alliance, for Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP). “This revolutionary, integrated approach brings our customers the extra proactive protection needed to secure enterprise desktops and remote clients in today’s sophisticated security environments.”

Using Trend Micro Control Manager 2.5, IT security administrators can work from a single, integrated Web-based console to deploy, update, and manage many Trend Micro products and services, including ServerProtect and OfficeScan, across different operating systems, regardless of location.

“OfficeScan and ServerProtect join the rest of our enterprise products, allowing customers to deploy Outbreak Prevention Policies at various points of the network,” said Richard Ku, Product Group Manager. “They also form a solid line of defense against any outbreaks that reach the interior of the network, and deliver our unique Damage Cleanup Services to remove all traces of malicious code to prevent troublesome re-infections.”
