Sygate Achieves Leader Quadrant Position In Personal Firewall Magic Quadrant
Superior Vision, Greater Functionality, Execution Ability and Initiative Are Key Factors for Leader Quadrant Position; Report States Personal Firewalls Are an “Immediate Priority” for the Enterprise
FREMONT, Calif.-July 7, 2003-Sygate Technologies, the market leader of enterprise endpoint security solutions, announced today that it is positioned in the leaders quadrant in Gartner’s recently released Personal Firewall Magic Quadrant. The report, authored by John Girard, vice president and research director at Gartner, evaluates 12 vendors for their ability to firewall remote, mobile and wireless user workstations from network-borne attacks. Sygate was positioned in the leaders quadrant, having met a rigorous set of criteria that includes the ability to drive market progress through competition, a high degree of visibility, aggressive sales growth, and enhanced functionality with impressive policy control capabilities. Sygate exhibited its ability to execute by demonstrating business value, generating positive client feedback, and creating a strong set of technology partnerships – including the first industry partnership with an SSL VPN vendor.
Sygate’s leaders quadrant position in Gartner’s Personal Firewall Magic Quadrant reflects the changing dynamics of firewall technology and the increasingly sophisticated security requirements of today’s large organizations. In a separate report, Personal Firewall Market Assessment report (June 2003), Gartner states “Enterprises must accept that their immediate priority is to install and operate Personal Firewalls to protect all of their exposed workstations, not to wait for an idealized, integrated single product. Spyware, keystroke monitoring, file shares, denial-of-service attacks and other exploits beyond the scope of antivirus tools threaten remote machines and, by extension, place enterprises’ IT resources at risk.”

Twelve vendors were evaluated in the Magic Quadrant based on completeness of vision and ability to execute. The criteria used to determine completeness of vision include: strategic leadership, breadth of solution, and enhanced features. Gartner assesses a company’s ability to execute based on: business clout, client feedback, and business health.
