TippingPoint Sets Performance Benchmark for Network Security with the First 5.0 Gigabit Intrusion Prevention System

AUSTIN, Texas – Feb. 24, 2004 – TippingPoint Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: TPTI), the leader in intrusion prevention, today announced the UnityOne-5000, the first and only intrusion prevention system (IPS) capable of performing at five gigabits per second (Gbps) under load. TippingPoint also announced a 50-megabit per second (Mbps) system, the UnityOne-50, for small businesses and remote branch offices.

TippingPoint’s President and Chief Operating Officer James Hamilton said, “We continue to raise the bar for intrusion prevention, and deliver uncompromising network security products to our customers that protect networks without hindering performance. We are expanding our product line to target both ends of the spectrum: large enterprises and service providers as well as remote branch offices.”

The UnityOne-5000 is the most powerful IPS in the industry, capable of true five Gbps in-line attack eradication. The UnityOne-5000 comes with eight Gigabit Ethernet ports protecting up to four network segments, and will be available in the third quarter. The UnityOne-50, shipping in April, enables remote branch offices to reap the benefits of advanced intrusion prevention. The UnityOne-50 is an appliance equipped with two Ethernet ports protecting one network segment.

Both products have the full set of award-winning security features and networking capabilities offered in the entire line of UnityOne Intrusion Prevention products. All UnityOne devices can be automatically updated with the latest vulnerability-based Virtual Software Patches through the Digital Vaccine service. Every UnityOne Intrusion Prevention System offers Application Protection, Performance Protection, and Infrastructure Protection.

UnityOne’s Application Protection capabilities provide fast, accurate, reliable protection from internal and external cyber attacks. Through its Infrastructure Protection capabilities, UnityOne protects routers, switches, DNS and other critical infrastructure from targeted attacks and traffic anomalies. UnityOne Performance Protection capabilities enable customers to throttle non-mission critical applications that hijack valuable bandwidth and IT resources, thereby aligning network resources and business-critical application performance.

“Our high-performance capabilities cleanse the network of non-legitimate traffic, malicious traffic and malformed packets while throttling non-mission critical applications to optimize network performance,” said TippingPoint’s Chief Technology Officer Marc Willebeek-LeMair. “The launch of our 5.0 gigabit product is a sign of our ongoing commitment to our customers to protect the most demanding networks.”
