New Security Solution by F-Secure and T-Com
Hannover, March 18, 2004 – F-Secure and T-Com, the fixed networks division of Deutsche Telekom, are expanding their cooperation in the area of IT security. The new product T-TeleSec Server and Desktop Security offers virus protection, a distributed firewall, intrusion detection, as well as central administration for computers/laptops and servers in local networks in one integrated solution. Just like Personal Security Service, which T-Com has been providing successfully since December 2002, F-Secure will also provide the base software for Server and Desktop Security. T-Com will assume the marketing and installation as well as technical support. Due to its scalability, Server and Desktop Security is tailored to companies of all sizes and will be available as of May 2004. The price for the solution is calculated according to the number of actually utilized licenses, whereby there is no minimum contract duration for the licenses.
According to current studies, more than two thirds of medium-sized companies have their own home page on the Internet. Even online commerce and data exchange via Internet and e-mail belong to everyday business life in the meantime. The Internet, however, does not only positively stimulate product sales and company productivity but also conceals dangers. According to the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labor, 73 percent of the medium-sized companies encountered viruses in 2002. Costs averaging EUR 5,700 per company were incurred just to fight these viruses and a total of 1.2 million workdays were thus lost. The analysts of the Meta Group estimate that about 80 percent of today’s security problems are caused by inadequacies while operating IT systems. These are often insufficiently configured and inadequately maintained as well as irregularly updated with patches.
Server and Desktop Security is an all-around, easy-to-use security package consisting of virus protection, distributed firewall, and intrusion detection. By using a easy-to-use management system, the customer can quickly perform the installation, but as an option, T-Com offers a basic configuration at a fixed price. Using this Management console, system administrators can create company-wide or individual security guidelines and distribute them centrally to the individual clients. Furthermore, the management tool generates reports about configurations, statistics, alarm reports, and individually managed devices so that all critical company network and security solutions are under complete control at all times. Upon request, T-Com supports these administrative tasks with Hotline Support, or on site by the Technical Customer Service. Anti-virus database updates are implemented automatically and if required several times a day in order to guarantee reliable protection from viruses, worms, Trojans, and other malicious codes. Server and Desktop Security is freely scalable; user companies can acquire licenses at any time. There is no minimum contract duration for the license. Only the actually utilized licenses are calculated. In this way, investment remains completely transparent.
