Sophos Protects Microsoft Networks From Viruses and Spam

Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses from spam and viruses, today announced the release of PureMessage for Windows/Exchange, a consolidated anti-spam and anti-virus solution for enterprise users running Microsoft platforms. PureMessage combines Sophos’s industry-leading virus and spam protection to safeguard networks, improve email productivity and reduce the risk of legal liability from employees viewing offensive spam.

Designed for companies with more than 100 desktops, PureMessage for Windows/Exchange is fully configurable, helping network managers stay in control of their system security. Advanced email threat reduction features are designed to stop new, unknown viruses from entering company networks, even when the email attachment names have been changed or files have been hidden in compressed files.

Virus and spam protection is automatically updated from the Sophos databank and messages are scanned regardless of how mail is sent or received. Suspicious attachments are removed and quarantined before the email is delivered to the recipients. Multiple language message processing makes it ideal for multi-national organisations.

In a recent Sophos poll of more than 5,800 companies*, 96% of respondents indicated that email was critical to their jobs, 78% believed that they would be more productive without spam. This, combined with an increase in email scams such as ‘phishing’ and the virus plague which shows no signs of abating, shows that companies need a robust anti-virus and anti-spam solution to protect their employees.

“Keeping up with virus and spam threats is a constant battle for network administrators,” said David Mitchell, senior product manager, Sophos. “Sophos’s new PureMessage solution helps enterprises tackle the problem head-on, with a scalable solution to protect corporate credibility and improve productivity.”

PureMessage for Windows/Exchange offers support for clustered Exchange installations to make use of failover capabilities of the Windows Server System.

PureMessage also provides end users with powerful, web-based quarantine management tools to retrieve email from the quarantine area without contacting the system administrator.
