Eracom Cryptographic Workshop Success 25 Years in the Making

Gold Coast, Australia – July 20, 2004 – Eracom Technologies, a leading developer and global supplier of cryptographic technologies and solutions celebrated its 25th Anniversary in style recently with a two-day workshop and commemorative cocktail party on Australia’s beautiful Gold Coast. The two-day workshop, held in association with the Information Security Research Centre (ISRC) at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), drew an A-list crowd of international academic delegates.

The list of guest keynote speakers included Professor Bill Caelli, the original founder of Eracom Technologies (formerly Electronic Research Australia — ERA) and presently the Head of School of Software Engineering and Data Communications at the ISRC at QUT in Brisbane. Also in attendance was Professor Scott Vanstone, founder of Certicom and Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at St. Jerome’s University, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada, Professor Peter Landrock, founder of Cryptomathic and professor at Aarhus University, Denmark and Dr. Hugh Williams of the University of Calgary. Each keynote speaker also participated in a panel session to an audience of academic and industry peers, students and special guests discussing current views on crypto technology and policy on day two of the event.

The keynote presentations included Professor Bill Caelli speaking on “The Challenge of Crypto-Integration’, Professor Peter Landrock presenting on “The Use of Tamper Resistant Hardware in Cryptographic Protocols’, Professor Scott Vanstone’s presentation on “Elliptic Curve Cryptography – Past, Present and Future Perspectives’ and Professor Hugh Williams’ presentation, “Cryptography, Sieving and Primality Proving’. Special guest Professor Ed Dawson, Director of the IRSC and Professor of the School of Software Engineering & Data Communications at QUT presented as part of multiple sessions on both days.

Other topics of discussion at the workshop included hash functions and ciphers, cryptographic protocols, cryptanalysis, implementation issues and applications.
