The techniques to block connections use both defensive and offensive approaches. The defensive approach involves a refusal of the inbound connection for a proprietary, pre-defined period of time. Therefore, the spam messages are never processed by IronMail, greatly increasing scalability. The offensive component takes the fight to the spammers. IronMail can limit the bandwidth and resources available to a targeted IP address in order to slow the flow of e-mail to a rate of as little as a handful of messages per hour, and then block whatever messages are delivered.
