3Com Appoints New Chief Technology Officer
Marlborough, Mass. May 24 2005 3Com Corporation today announced that Marc Willebeek-LeMair was named the company’s new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The former CTO and Chief Strategy Officer of TippingPoint, 3Com’s security division, will report directly to 3Com President and CEO, Bruce Claflin, and be responsible for setting the technology direction of the company.

As part of his new responsibilities, Willebeek-LeMair will work closely with 3Com engineers to help ensure that 3Com’s security, IP telephony and networking products are interoperable – enabling businesses of all sizes to implement complete solutions without having to rely on proprietary, inflexible products.
Willebeek-LeMair was an original member of the TippingPoint team and has extensive background in network systems and security. Prior to TippingPoint, he spent 10 years at the T.J. Watson Research Center of IBM where he was responsible for the exploration of High Bandwidth Systems, Intelligent Infrastructure Technologies, as well as streaming audio and video applications. His background also includes research in parallel and distributed computing, multi-media conferencing and management systems.
He earned his doctorate in electrical engineering from Cornell University, has been granted more than 10 patents, and has had more than 50 articles published.
