Independent Research Firm Acknowledges Trend Micro as a Leader in Enterprise Anti-Spyware

Cupertino, CA – January 9, 2006 – Trend Micro, Incorporated. (TSE: 4704, NASDAQ: TMIC), a leader in network antivirus and content security software and services, has been acknowledged in a new report by independent industry analyst firm Forrester Research as a market leader in enterprise anti-spyware solutions, validating the company’s momentum and capabilities in one of the security industry’s fastest-growing markets.

The “Forrester First Waveâ„?: Enterprise Antispyware, Q1 2006” report, released January 6, 2006, is based on customer feedback, product demonstrations, and vendor surveys. It evaluates eight anti-spyware vendors against more than 100 criteria, including current offerings, market presence, investment in anti-spyware solution development, and long-term product and corporate strategy.

The report names Trend Micro as a leader among the field. Trend Micro receives the highest score in product and corporate strategy. It states that “Trend Micro is delivering what enterprise customers want — an option for either a standalone or an integrated antispyware solution.” (Trend Micro Offers Large Enterprises Strong Standalone Enterprise Antispyware, Forrester Research, Inc., January 2006).

The report goes on to say that going forward, “Trend Micro will benefit from their multiple form-factor antispyware products, including standalone, suite, and gateway solutions.”

“The central deployment and management capabilities of Trend Microâ„? Anti-Spyware Enterprise Edition make it quick and easy to install and simple to manage,” said Art DeKneef, owner of Avanti Computers and a customer of Trend Micro’s standalone anti-spyware solution. “Its effective reporting capabilities deliver the information we need, and most importantly, the solution finds and eliminates spyware threats – Trend Micro solutions do the job.”

The Forrester report added that Trend Micro’s form-factor flexibility, combined with Trend Micro Control Managerâ„? – the company’s centralized management solution – is a significant differentiation point in the marketplace and is a fundamental reason why the analyst firm issued a high rating of the company’s strategic direction. It states: “As a dedicated security vendor, Trend Micro is able to dedicate significant resources to its antispyware product. The company’s offerings are designed for the enterprise, scaling to a virtually limitless number of nodes.”

“Trend Micro is extremely pleased to be recognized as a leading vendor in enterprise anti-spyware,” said Max Cheng, Executive V.P. and General Manager of Trend Micro’s Enterprise business. “This acknowledgement shows that we are excelling in more than just antivirus protection. We have a commitment to maintain an unwavering focus on developing leading anti-spyware solutions as well. Forrester’s report provides justification that our efforts are being acknowledged positively by customers and the marketplace as a whole.”

Cheng added that the acknowledgement of Trend Micro as a market leader comes at a time when the anti-spyware market is growing significantly. According to a report from IDC, the anti-spyware market is projected to grow 64 percent year-over-year in 2006.

“Spyware is a growing threat, and through the combination of our standalone and integrated solutions, both at the gateway and at the desktop, Trend Micro is in a unique position to protect our enterprise customers from malware threats now and in the future,” Cheng said.
